Ever since Sung DeokIm became King Jeongjo's concubine, she has received a fair share of happiness and also.... tragedy.
She knew what she was getting into. A free and strong willed young lady like Deok-Im....bec...
The beautiful norigae that Deok-Im wore dangled as she walked beside the king.
It was a month after the birth of the new prince. Thankfully, the UiBin had recovered and was given a go sign by the royal physicians to finally attend events with the king.
Today, there will be a grand celebration for the birth of a first heir. It'll be an important event attended by the primary members of the royal family and of course..... important political figures in Joseon.
With his arms wrapped around the UiBin's waist. Yi San had insisted that she need not walk behind him and that she still needed to be careful whenever she moved around.
The king held onto Deok-Im's hand and spoke in a gentle tone.
'We can just stay for the speeches, if you feel tired later just tug my sleeve then we can just leave.... Okay?'
Trying not to roll her eyes at San's statement, Deok-Im shakes her head and replies in a tone laced with disapproval.
'No, jeonha.... This will be a celebration to honor the prince. As his biological mother, I intend to honor that and be simply thankful.
Once we arrive, jeonha should ask the queen to sit beside you..... I'd be much comfortable to just stay by the sid---'
But even before the UiBin could finish speaking, the king interjects in a strict tone.
'No, no.... You'll be sitting beside me. I'm not sending you to the side. Just like what you said.... You are Sun-ie's mother, then that means you are also being celebrated today.
The queen will sit beside mother, I am the king and I decide who sits beside me.....and as always, I want you beside me.'
Deok-Im could only sigh in defeat as she silently nods her head.
She didn't really have much of a choice. Although, she had a healthy and friendly relationship with the queen.... She just couldn't help but sometimes feel uncomfortable with her due to the complicated actions and decisions of the king.
'Court Lady Seo, You can just let UiBin carry the prince once we arrive. There is no need to follow protocol and have the maids hold him.
I want Sun to be with his mother.'
Court Lady Seo politely agrees as she protectively cradled the infant prince who was wrapped in a precious silk comforter.
The court lady followed behind the royal couple as they walked down the stone path.
As they arrive in front of the huge pavilion, Court Lady Kwon nods at one of the Eunuch and orders him to announce the entrance of the family.
'His majesty, the king and her highness, the royal noble consort UiBin arrives with his highness, the royal prince....'
As the huge doors open, all the members of the royal family who are present along with the ministers and servants all bow their heads in respect to the king.
San nods and smiles as he greets the queen dowager and his mother.
With Deok-Im now carrying the little prince, San grins and leads his wife and son towards the head table.
Queen Hyoui smiles gently as she meets eyes with UiBin and nods at her as if reassuring her that everything was fine and she was fine.
Deok-Im bows her head and silently thanks the queen with a gentle gaze.
As San helps Deok-Im settle down beside him, he grins at his infant son and turns to the people who sat waiting for him to speak.
But before the king could speak, the queen dowager breaks the silence and smiles as she congratulates her step- grandson.
'Jeonha..... It is a joyful occasion for Joseon, As your grandmother.... I would like to relay to you and our UiBin on how happy I am on the birth of the new prince. You have finally fulfilled a dream that the citizens of Joseon have all longed for but most of all....you have finally secured the lineage of the royal family and for that I am grateful.'
The king nods as he smiles and lays his hand on Deok-Im's hand which was holding the infant prince.
'Thank you for your warm words, your highness.... I as the king of this great country have longed for an heir to continue this line for our great Joseon . Now that it has happened, I am more than blessed and happy to share such an amazing news to our citizens.'
As San turns his eyes to Deok-Im who sat silent holding their sleeping infant, he smiles as he continues his speech.
'That is why I would like to make a special announcement..... As the royal prince is my first born heir, I would like to announce my decision to make him crown prince of Joseon someday in the future....'
Gasps and shocked faces fill the whole place up, even Deok-Im was caught startled at his sudden decision.
Making the child of a consort crown prince was slightly looked down on because the child would not be the primary wife's child.
Well...It wasn't like San even cared though, Sun is his and Deok-Im's child and that was what mattered.
The woman he truly and only loves from their youth to present.
Breaking the slightly tensed silence, Queen Hyoui chose to speaks up and congratulate the king.
'That is an great decision and blessing to Joseon jeonha.... I sincerely congratulate jeonha and our dear UiBin.'
Jeongjo nods and thanks the queen with a slight smile. Eventually, everyone smiles as they congratulate the king once more.
And so the day went on with the traditional celebrations and food.
All that mattered that day was that Yi San had finally provided an heir and he was going to be crown prince some day.
But internally, what mattered more to the king was that he and Deok-Im had finally become a family together and this starts a amazing journey with her.

Hopefully no one's getting bored yet. College has been crazy so I haven't had much time to write but I've been writing the last few chapters of this book first (Yeah!!! Weird, I write the last chapters first 🤣)
