Eli and I took the bus to a shopping mall near where Blake lived. I made sure to sit near the door, so I could leave if I needed too. Eli sat on the aisle seat, so I wouldn't have to deal with any strangers brushing past me. I sat with a good 15 centimetre gap between Eli and myself, I did it naturally, pushing myself against the side of the bus so I was away from him, I didn't even realise I had done it until half way through the journey when I reached for Eli's hand and he looked at me with raised eyebrows.
"Are you good?" He asked.
"Fine," I said.
"It's just I thought you were going to fall out of the window with how far away from me you were sitting and now you're holding my hand?"
I sighed and looked at the distance between our legs. I shuffled towards him slightly. "I didn't even realise."
"It's fine. Just let me know what you're comfortable with. I can't read your mind, princess."
"Sometimes it seems like you can," I murmured.
"My life would be a lot easier if I could read your mind, Daisy," Eli said with a small smile.
"I don't make things easy, do I?" I said. "You should be used to it."
"I wouldn't have it any other way," Eli said and pressed the bell on the bus when we neared our destination.
"Let's get the clothes and get back quickly," I said. "We don't want to leave it too late before they move Joey."
"I know," Eli nodded. "We'll be quick."
I kept hold of Eli's hand when the bus stopped and we stood up, thanking the driver and stepping out of the side doors. It was a weekday so the shopping mall was peaceful and sparsely populated which was a relief, but I still stayed glued to Eli's side as we searched for appropriate outfits so we could pass as legal assistants.
It wasn't long before we found a fitted grey suit for Eli, and a pencil skirt and a blouse for myself. We had paid and were leaving the shop when there was a shout from somewhere behind us and I gasped when I was barged to the side and a boy in a grey tracksuit ran past me, a security guard close behind him.
"Not so fast, you scumbag!" The security guard yelled, reaching forward and grasping the boys hood. The boy cried out as the security guard pulled him back and took a firm hold of him, yelling profanities at him and seizing the bag off of the boys back. "Let's see what the police do to thieves, you foolish kid!"
"Mate, get off me!" The kid snapped, but the security guard was twice his size and had an iron like grip on him. "You can't touch me, you perv! Do you like touching up boys, eh? What will the police do when I tell them that your hands have wandered in places that they definitely shouldn't go? Huh?"
The security guard rolled his eyes and pointed to one of the many CCTV cameras. "I think I'll be fine. You, however, have been caught for the last time. How many times do you have to be arrested for the police to finally lock you up?"
"Screw you!" The boy yelled and as the security guard pulled him back into the store, I noticed that he was about 15 years old and he had a variety of bruises covering his face. He was wearing an expensive tracksuit, that I assumed had probably been stolen. The security guard looked at me and frowned. "Sorry, Miss, are you okay? This street rat didn't hurt you, did he?"
"Street rat?" The boy growled. "You work security for a shopping mall, you loser!"
"I'm fine," I told the security guard who's face was turning red as he listened to the boys taunts.
"Are you sure? If he's hurt you then you can wait and talk to the police-"
"I barely touched her!" The boy scowled. "Tell him lady! I barely touched you!"
