I felt my face redden and as I saw Matt staring at me, this only deepened.
“I’m sorry that I took off like that,” I apologised, awkwardly looking in Matt’s direction.
He shook his head and smiled honestly.
“Don’t worry about it; I can totally understand why you would run off.”
I returned his smile and looked forward as we entered the car park. Waiting for us I could see Zacky and Brian. They waved excitedly. Over the past few days I had been made to feel more than welcome by them and they were starting to become really important to me.
I looked over at Brian. I could definitely tell why Sarah liked him so much. His deep chocolate-brown eyes caressed with a subtle layer of eyeliner that accentuated their splendour. Wild, dark hair that gave him a tenor of mystique and his toned, slender body, covered in quirky monster tattoos – something quintessential of Avenged Sevenfold.
I don’t know for how long I must have been staring at him before I was brought back into reality by Matt gently nudging me. “Are you going to stay in here all day or what?”
“I’m coming!” I exclaimed, trying to sound happier. I could feel my light-headedness which reminded me that, I had actually had a lot to drink. I wondered what time it was – surely it was very early in the morning.
Matt enclosed my hand in his as we walked to our room. I looked down and saw one of his tattoos – a tribute to Jimmy. I would have loved to meet him. I guess that Avenged Sevenfold will never be the same again.
“Matt, can we talk for a little while before we go to bed?”
“Can it not wait? It’s late.”
“No, it can’t. I doubt I’ll be able to sleep unless we do.”
“Okay, well you come back into sobriety fairly quickly don’t you?”
“When there is something serious in my life that I need to deal with, yes, I do.”
Matt looked at me and I saw a hint of dread in his eyes.
As we retreated to our room, Matt quickly opened the door and pushed me inside.
“Okay, what do you need to tell me?” he asked, behaving like a child on Christmas waiting to run downstairs and open presents.
“Matt,” I started leading him to the bed where we sat down together. “If anything like that happens ever again, I’m leaving for good. I can’t be unhappy like I was – no matter how much I love you. I am not going to compromise my emotional health for a guy. No matter who he is, I have to take care of myself.”
“But Charlotte, surely this pain is a worthy compromise. If you don’t compromise or take risks, then you aren’t living or experiencing.”
I shrugged. “Isn’t that what I’m doing now?”
Matt smiled and leaned into kiss me. It was a deep kiss, deeper than usual. I completely lost myself in the moment when Matt pulled away, to my annoyance.
“What are you doing?”
“It’s late, and technically you’re drunk. I think that you better get some rest for tomorrow – or today rather.”
I rolled my eyes and sulked – I guess this showed that I still was rather drunk.
As we got ready for bed, Matt took off his shirt and I admired his well-defined chest. I saw the words “THICKER THAN WATER” and I couldn’t help but smile. Matt looked into my gaze, smirked and narrowed his eyes.
“Are you checking me out?” He said playfully.
I nodded and blushed at him. “Can you blame me?”
Matt chuckled. I loved to hear that and it made me smile even more.
I got undressed and climbed into bed, where Matt wrapped his arms around me and held me tight, breathing on to my neck.
“I never thought I’d be able to do this again.” He whispered in content.
I placed my hand on the back of his head and we drifted off to sleep.
I was abruptly woken by Matt, who was gently shaking me.
“Get up! We’ve got to go.”
“Where are we going?” I asked confused.
I rolled my eyes. I was too tired and hung over to go. I rolled over and Matt tried to scoop me out of the bed. But realising that Zack was in the room and that I was in my underwear, he gave up.
“You are going to get dressed?” I replied in mumble.
“Well, when you do, there is someone here to see you.”
That gave me the incentive to get up. I got showered and pulled some clothes out of my case.
I rushed out of the door to find Sarah and Jenna sitting on a couch outside. I giggled to myself as I knew that was the guys had brought many women.
“What are you guys doing here?” I asked enthusiastically.
“We came to see if you were sure that you wanted to stay. And then Matt asked us if we could stay the night. Well, of course we said yes!”
I smiled with my friends as we started to laugh. I lead them to where the guys were rehearsing and as soon as Sarah saw Synyster, she swooned.
“Hey, remember, he has a girlfriend so you can’t act like that around him.”
“Speak for yourself! You didn’t know that Matt was getting divorced when you agreed to meet him in that hotel.”
I didn’t say anything – it was clear who had won this argument.
As we walked in and over to the stage where the guys were performing “Seize the Day” Jenna exclaimed, “Oh my God. It’s Zacky!”
I could tell why she had swooned. When he grasped my hand at the meet-and-greet my heart skipped a beat. He was very attractive. But, Matt would always be top, no matter what.
As the outro died out they guys came over to see us.
“Sarah right?” Zacky asked, obviously directed at Sarah. Jenna looked a little disheartened.
She giggled before introducing Jenna. Jenna turned a deep shade of red and Zacky looked at me as if to say ah, great, another crazed fan in our territory.
“Charlotte, can I have a word with you?” Zack asked apologetically.
I nodded “Can’t it wait?”
“Not really. It can’t.”
I rushed off to the side with Zacky where he started to tell me what was wrong.
