 Imogen

Imogen,my unusual name. It kinda suits me though since my life is unusual. My parents divorced when i was four and i haven't seen my dad since but we do occasionally write letters to eachother. He lives on the other side of the world you see so its not like i can get a bus to his. Anyway he doesn't need me,he has a girlfriend and a new baby of their own,my half sister Corrina. So its just me and my mum...

My mum is 43. She works as a masseuse in a place called 'Relax and Renew'. I actually have never been to her work but  it sounds alright, not a place you would want to spend a Friday afternoon on though so i usually stay in the house all on my own. My mum is also a bit of a hippy, she wears these neon multicoloured dresses and odd jewellery made of pasta! Its's a bit wild i know!

I'm also not the most popular girl in school. I have moved school five times because i get bullied a lot. I hope it will stop eventually, i just don't know whats wrong with me. Everyone gives me dirty looks and no one wants to be with me. Anyway i like being on my own i don't need anyone and no one needs me...

But my unusual life got worse today. I fell onto the road and was hit by a car. All i can remember is it felt like a giant wave of pain was crashing into me and i was a sponge soaking it all in even though i didn't want to. I oppened my eyes and saw i was in hospital. It was one of those boring white hospitals with no pictures and nothing to amuse you. And then i felt the pain again in my legs and in my arms,i think i have broken bones. I saw my mum on a hard wooden chair at the oppisite side of the dull room. She was crying, hard. I had never seen her cry before, ever. She was wearing one of her multicoloured dresses and wearing her new neon pink shoes which i had chosen with her a couple months back. My mums outfit scared the nurse a bit when she came in. The nurse was dressed in white and she had long dark brown hair. She started telling my mum my injurys from the crash,i have broken both my legs and fractured my right arm. I sat there quietly,it's what i do best...

The nurse said that i would need a wheelchair for about six months. I knew  this would cause staring and pointing at my school and being in a wheelchair would make my life hard. I noticed my mum was still in my room but she was fast asleep. Her mascara had run down her cheeks, her hair was tangled, she had bags under her eyes, had she slept at all last night? She looked a mess. I sat up in my hospital bed and looked around. Is it just me or do hospitals smell a bit weird?  Well i don't know if it was the hospital smell or the fact that my life is upside down but i started crying. Not loudly or anything just sobbing, sobbing like there was no tomorrow...

Six months have gone past and it's the end of first year at high school. I got out of my wheelchair a couple of days ago,it feels great to walk again. I was right about the pointing and staring but that died down after a few weeks. My life is pretty much the same as it was, Mum is still a hippy,i'm not popular,i still don't see my dad,but maybe this year will be different. Maybe second year of high school will be great. Maybe i will be the most popular girl in school and maybe i will see my dad. Who knows? I mean my life may be unusual, but good things can happen in unusual lives can't they?
