I sat still in the passenger seat of Chris's blue SUV. My arms were crossed over my chest and I was practically fuming. I recognized where we were going. Hell, I would recognize it anywhere. We were going home, to South Carolina. I knew I had to get out of the car somehow and shift so I could call to my pack, but He had me strapped into the seat with silver chains. While werewolves weren't allergic to silver, we weren't exactly super strong with them either.
"Oh, c'mon, Sammy. I thought you'd be happy to see me," Chris said, glancing at me. I scowled.
"I am happy, Christopher, but I'm pissed that you're taking me back to that hellhole without my pack beside me. You know from experience that an Alpha is only as strong as her pack." I told him flatly, looking at him and taking in his features. His eyes were that icy blue that I remembered and his silver blonde hair was long, almost to his shoulders. There was a long faded scar across his neck and I scowled again. "So how are you alive?"
"I never died really." He said, focusing his eyes on the road.
"Then what happened?" I asked, struggling not to go for his throat. I told myself I was happy he was alive. And I was...for the most part.
"Mom slit my throat, but it wasn't deep enough to kill me. When I woke up all healed in my coffin, shocking everyone, I found out you were gone. That Mom had blamed you and that my pack was ordered to kill you on sight. I went after Mom and now she's locked up and Dad and I are running the packs. He didn't know what she'd done." He shook his head. "I've been chasing after your ghost for the last eleven years."
"My ghost?" I said, looking at him in surprise.
"Yeah. You weren't exactly easy to find." He admitted. "I searched everywhere. It wasn't until I heard about an assassin that calls herself Silver Shadows that I finally picked up your trail. Though, to be honest, I didn't expect you to be Silver herself, Sammy. I thought that silver eyed girl I knocked out was the Alpha." He pursed his lips. "She was a cutie but I smelled you all over her. That's how I knew it was you who was the leader."
"What did you do to Alana?" I demanded, worry rising up inside me.
"I didn't do anything. The house, however, may be burning her alive though." He told me, a small smile on his lips. "May be burning all of your packmates alive."
"What?!" I gasped in outrage. "Why would you do that?"
"In order to rejoin my pack, Sam, you can't have one. You needed to start new, I just helped you along." He explained, sounding pretty proud of himself.
"You monster." I snarled, lunging for his throat. My claws barely touched his skin before he punched me in the face.
The world went black.
I paced back and forth along the river in my wolf form. Jared watched me from where he sat a few feet away. We decided that our wolf forms were safer than our human ones. The others had yet to arrive. I growled in annoyance and howled again for my pack. This time with a force that made Jared shudder.
Silver? A tentative voice entered my mind and I spun to examine the trees around us.
Lauren? Mark? Maya? Eric? Jared answered, standing.
We're on our way to you. We heard Silver's howl. What's up? Maya replied.
Jared and I shared a look. Silver has been kidnapped. Paul is dead. I said slowly.
