I knew he was coming.

I felt him. I knew he wouldn't hurt me. But I was fearful. And fear makes one react in lots of ways.

I kept a small but sharp army knife by my bed. I tried to sleep but the thunder kept me up. It was so loud that I almost did not hear my door rattling against its hinges.

"Persephone. Open the door." I heard his growl.

I kept quiet.

"You try to hide, wife. But wherever you are, I will always find you."

I tried to muffle a sob. My world has been turned upside down once again. The man that I thought I knew and love did horrible things like Cy said.

"Hear him out. Open the door." A small voice urged me. But my resolve was greater.

The door almost came off its hinges. Dante was there. Covered in damp clothes from the rain. His shirt clung to his body, defining his lean physique even more. His chest heaved up and down and he was angry.

Angry that he had gone that long without his wife by his side.

I knew I shouldn't be but I groan as heat blossomed in my core. This is my dominant - in his raw prime.

His eyes looked down to the knife clutched in my trembling hands and he wavered. After realising I wasn't gonna hurt myself, he took slow thunderous steps to my small form. He came as close as he could, even though my knife was still outstretched. The blade lightly nicked him and I shook myself out of a trance.

I let my blade fall to the ground as I tried to cover up the small scratch. Even despite everything, I was worried what a small scratch was going to do to him.

He wrapped one of his gigantic hands around my neck, tugging me closer.

"Lets go home." It wasn't a suggestion but an order and it rattled me to the core.

Did I want to go back with him?

He did not look like the sad and scared boy that followed me around like a lost puppy for the past few months. No, he looked like he was adamant on closing the emotional distance between us, no matter the cost.

I was about to pull away when he shoved me harshly to the wall. His body covered mine like a shield as he grunted in pain.

Dark red blood flowed, with a sharp blade piercing his back. He shifted his body and I could see Cy covering her mouth in shock.

I was in a trance as I saw his heavy body collapsed to the floor. I wanted to rush to him but I couldn't. It's as if my whole system got shut down and I couldn't fight Cy who was pulling me further and further away from his body.

"Are you crazy? Run!" Cy frustratedly yelled at me as she was heaving heavily through the effort it took to yank me away from his still body.

Weirdly enough, I found myself following this strange girl who I barely know through the forest surrounding the motel.

The thunder crackled above us but an even louder roar shook our very core. It even scared Cy who froze for a good few seconds before forcing herself to continue on.

I glanced at her and her eyes were as wide as a doe. She was deathly terrified of Dante and what he could do.

"PERSEPHONE!" I yelped in terror as he sounded like he was right behind me.

And he was. His back was bare of anything but blood running. Despite the amount of blood he was losing, he was gaining the distance on us.

"Please!" Cy grabbed my hand with both of hers.

"We cannot be caught. He will sever my head and feed it to his haunting hellhound." She pleaded with me.

I bit my lip as I thought quickly. I did not want to have another one's blood on my hands. I yanked the trembling girl to the direction of my Harley.

I put my helmet on as she clambered behind me. I could feel his deathly stare raking down my back. However, I try to ignore the bond that calls me. The bond that calls for me to run back to him.

I kick the stand and started the engine. Leaving the motel and him behind.

-

Cy seemed relieved as we pulled into a gas station. She would not utter a word. And I let her have the time to internalise everything. That is until we sat down in the burger joint to have a bite.

"Who are you?" I scrutinised the squeamish girl.

"I am Cy."

"Who were you?"

"Cyane. I was one of the naiads that used to play with you in the meadows."

I listened to her tell the story. The myth to many but to her, it was her life. Her life of how she failed to protect me from being kidnapped by the King from down under. The story of how she wasn't able to forgive herself and cried herself till she became the River Cyane.

"I failed you once and I do not intend to fail you again." Her eyes stared at me intently.

I shuddered and thought of Luke and Minthe.

"I think I need a break as well. But I do not know where to go or to hide. It seems like he is always able to find me." I sighed.

"I know somewhere." She brightened visibly.

"My mother. She is able to cast a protection incanto. The King would not be able to find us then."

I was hesitant but agreed. What other choice did I have to gain some space away from him?

-

"Are you sure you know where you're going?" Hesitation laced my voice as she took me further snd further into the woods.

Cy said nothing but stared at the darkness in front of her. She confidently took the lead as if she walked this road a thousand times.

She was so confident that I started to feel it too. The feeling of being free.

Until I heard a loud roar.

Cy's face turned a deathly pale as she started sprinting into the dark.

"Hurry up!" she hissed at me as I stumbled into the clearing after her.

I had not even realised I had passed through the barrier until she screamed.

"CLOSE IT."

I flinched as I saw him skidded to a halt in the clearing.

His eyes darted around in wild panic as if searching for something.

Could he not see me?

I walked up to the edge of the shimmering barrier. My heart tore as my ears honed in on his whispers.

"I saw you, please." Desperation laced his voice.

Dante led out a terrifying growl which made me step back.

At this movement, his eyes snapped uncannily to me, as if he was able to see me.

Cy and I held our breath, afraid that somehow this god had managed to find me.

Then, his eyes drifted past me, away from me and unknowing that I was barely a few feet away from him.

My heart skipped a beat as I heard the smallest of sob coming from him.

"You need to believe me. I didn't- . Nothing happened with her."

Up to this point, Minthe had completely slipped my mind.

But at the thought of them, all of my thoughts turned sour.

And I walked away, leaving him all alone.
