"Alright Ethan, everything seems to be ok,"
"T-minus 4 months and two days until I can start testosterone," my son says with a smile
The doctor leaves the room and Ethan hops off the bed.
"Exciting, isn't?" I say gripping his shoulders as we leave the room.
"So exciting!" He beams
Ethan got another hormone blocker shot today. He's body is responding well to the higher dose, as the doctor says.
"I need bigger binders and I was wondering if I could get a packer StP," he doesn't look at me when he asks and his face turns red.
"What's a packer StP? You have to educate your old man," I ask
"basically it's a silicone penis for female to male trans people. The one I want allows you to pee straight from the packer. A packer Stand to Pee," he explains.
"You'll have to show me the ones you want. But I'll definitely get you them," I tell him as we leave the building. "You don't have to be embarrassed to ask me to buy you something. I'll buy you whatever."
"I know. I'm still getting used to it," is all he says before we get in the car.
When I sit down my phone immediately starts ringing. "Look who's punctual,"
I answer my phone and the sound of my eldest sister sounds, "Where's my nephew?"
"I'm here, auntie."
"4 months and 2 days! How did today go?" She squeals
"Great. The doctor said everything was fine," Ethan answers as I pull out of the parking lot.
My eldest sister, Sandra, is a urologist. She went to Standford for majority of her 20s and recently went back to study Feminist, Gender, and Sexuality Studies.
She's the first person I went to when Ethan told me he was trans and wanted to fully transition.
He told me the day I found him and Flavia. His hair was still long and he only had feminine clothes.
His name was Estephanie, but he told me he preferred Ethan. He told me he's a female but prefers male pronouns.
I didn't question what he told me but I suddenly felt a protectiveness over him.
When I finally got custody over them, I supported him in anyway I could.
It started with hormone blockers, then the clothes and his hair. Then switching his name and gender legally.
He was homeschooled until high school when he felt like he could socially transition. And it worked perfectly, he has a group of friends that know about his transition but that's it.
He plays on boys sports teams and shops in the mens section.
"Did you ask him?"
"Yeah. He said yes," Ethan answers
"That's great. I have next month off so I'll be coming up. Alright?" My sister questions
"Yeah, that's fine. We have my cousins birthday at the end of that month and in March so we're coming down for a few weeks," I tell
"Alright. Well I have a surgery to prepare for, just wanted to check on Ethan. I'll call y'all soon," Sandra says
"Talk soon," We bid goodbye and Ethan hangs up the phone
"Can you send me that link to the packers? I'll order them while you're in therapy," I ask
"sure," he replies
