火葬から : From the Pyre

The story begins with a descendant of Katsumi and a bearer of the curse. The woman has hidden her daughter, Y/N L/N, from her own father who has fallen victim to the curse. Filled with uncontrollable obsession, Y/N's mother is subjected to extreme violence at the hands of Y/N's father. Unable to handle anymore abuse, Y/N's mother spirals. In the midst of her depression and helplessness, she ends her life leaving behind her daughter.

Without her sole protector, Y/N is quickly discovered by her father. Y/N's father is devastated by the death of his wife. However, upon discovering his daughter, the curse immediately takes effect and he is once again controlled by obsession. Time passes as Y/N lives with her crazed father. During this time she is subjected to the same abuse her mother had before she had passed. After one punishment where she is lashed and trapped in a wardrobe, a bloodthirsty demon follows the strong scent of her blood to their secluded home. The demon first devours her father. The demon then follows her scent and finds her within the closet. The demon was originally going to consume the little girl when it had caught a glimpse of her face. Like before, the curse takes effect and his intentions change. The demon decides to bring Y/N along to his hideout and treats her as a precious pet. Using the human flesh of her own father to feed the cursed child, Y/N undergoes further torture by another man effected by the curse.

Finally, when Y/N is ready to pass on to the afterworld, someone comes and rescues her from the dark. Kayako, a former Hashira, takes in Y/N when she has no where else to go. Under Y/N's insistent begging, she agrees to train her.

The story then follows Y/N as she begins her journey in demon slaying while burdened by the trauma of her past. She enters the Demon Slayer Final Selection. There, she meets Muichiro Tokito, a genius swordsman. Wary of men, especially those she deems dangerously powerful,  she avoids him throughout the selection. However, curiosity gets the best of him and he sneaks a peak beneath her mask. Unbeknownst to Y/N, the genius was added to her soon to be long list of admirers.

After passing the selection, Y/N works hard on training and completing missions to become the strongest version of herself. While developing her skills, she is recommended to be the tsugoku of one of the current Pillars. In the end, she decides to work under Mitsuri Kanroji and Shinobu Kocho. Both her relationships and slaying abilities are further developed under the guidance of Mitsuri and Shinobu.

While Y/N begins to work on creating her own Breathing Style, she starts to become acquainted with more people. Eventually, she defeats a Lower Moon using her own Breathing Style and is able to officially become apart of the Hashira. While working as a Pillar, her exposure to others is increased and her appearance is revealed to some of her fellow slayers. Unfortunately, Y/N fails to notice as her list of admirers grow.

Y/N is sent to follow a demon sighting on a mountain. Upon arriving, she realizes she is too late but the demon has not yet left. Following her gut instinct, she chases after the demon. However, the demon is too powerful to handle and he knocks her unconscious in a single blow. When she awakens, she realizes that her fellow Hashira, Giyu Tomioka had witnessed her appearance when saving her from the mountain. As he is the first man to ever witness her face since childhood, she becomes exceedingly anxious. However, when nothing perceivable happens to her, her worry lessens.

The Phoenix Pilar continues to strengthen herself while completing the missions given to her.  During one mission while she is supervising Tanjiro Kamado, Inosuke Hashibara, and Zenitsu Agatsuma, her appearance is discovered by both Tanjiro and Inosuke. Their originally distant relationships deepen under the effects of the curse.

Y/N is later sent on mission by Ubuyashiki to aid Rengoku Kyojuro after Ubuyashiki received a premonition that an Upper Moon would be appearing. The Phoenix Pillar is able to prevent the death of Rengoku but accidentally reveals her appearance to both the Flame Pillar and Upper Moon Three.

While the Flame Pillar recovers, YN is once again sent on a mission by Ubuyashiki to aid Uzui Tengan. During the mission, Y/N constantly avoids Uzui who is determined to see the face under her mask. The battle against Upper Moon Six begins. Soon after Tanjiro receives his Demon Slayer Mark, the chain starts. Y/N witnessed his condition change and also receives her mark as her body reached the required state. In addition to the enhanced effects of the Demon Slayer Mark, Y/N manages to unlock the see-through world on a whim. Using these new skills, they are able to defeat the Upper Moon Siblings.

While exhausted, Uzui takes the opportunity to finally achieve his goal of seeing the face under Y/N's mask. Unfortunately, in the process, Y/N's precious mask is broken. Now, with the see through world and filled with rage, Y/N finally disregards her fear of men and attacks the Sound Pillar. Slayers and Kakushi try to stop her but are unable due to her new advantage using the see through world. After this, she is no longer scared of men as she knows that with her new advantages, the majority of the men around her would be unable to harm her. Coming to terms with the fact that she is much stronger than her childhood self, part of her trauma is treated and she decides to no longer use her mask. Y/N sends the mask along with a letter back to her teacher.

火葬から directly translates to "from cremation." Pyre, similar to cremation, is a fire used at funerals to burn the deceased corpse. In mythology, phoenixes are said to rise anew from the ashes of the pyre of their predecessor. From the Pyre symbolizes the curse from Y/N's mother being transferred on to Y/N. Like a phoenix, Y/N's origin and story begins from the death of her mother and predecessor.
