"Uncle Blake, did you make Auntie Bwee sad?" KJ asked.
I was in the middle of feeding Brielle, and his question completely caught me off guard.
"Why do you ask?"
"'Cause she was cwying," he said, looking up at me, "and she called you a butthole."
"Don't say butthole," I said, making him laugh, "but was she mad at me?"
He shook his head as he played with Brielle's fingers, "no...just sad." He continued to play with Brielle's fingers until he looked up at me again.
"Uncle Blake, you love Auntie, wight?" he asked with his eyebrows knitted together.
"Of course I do."
"Then why do you make her so sad?" he asked.
I can't believe a three year old is getting on my case about the way I treat Briana.
"Because I can be dumb sometimes, KJ," I replied, burping Brielle.
"Can you pwease stop making my auntie sad?" he asked, "I don't like it."
I chuckled a little, but not because it was funny -- because I thought it was great how much he loves Briana.
"I'm definitely gonna try."
"Good!" he smiled, running out of the living room.
I shouldn't have said what I said. But dammit, I've had that bottled up for the longest and I guess it just finally came out.
I know I was wrong and could've handled the situation better; I'm not too proud to admit that. But even though I was wrong, I don't feel bad about what I said & did to Alana.
Because I didn't wanna go home, I stayed around at the studio for a while after everyone left.
"What are you still doing here?" Jordan asked, "you better get home to your family."
"I don't really wanna be at the house right now," I replied, sitting in a nearby chair.
"Uh oh. What'd he do?" she asked, pulling a chair up beside me.
I explained the whole situation to her and by the time I was finished, she was just as upset as I was.
"And this is the same girl that put you in the hospital?!"
I bit my lip and nodded slowly while staring into space.
"That's fucked up!" she shouted, "I should go over there and rip him a new --"
"Jordan!" I laughed, "calm down."
"I will not calm down. That nigga has his priorities messed up."
"I mean in his defense, I shouldn't have acted the way I did."
Jordan looked at me like she wanted to slap the shit outta me when I said that.
"I don't care, Bri! You're his wife! I don't give a fuck about what you did to her, he's supposed to defend you no matter what! This isn't the first time he's done this, and that's why I'm so pissed off."
It may have looked like I wasn't paying attention to what Jordan was saying, but I heard her.
"You need to go home, and maybe y'all should talk about this again," she said, "and if you need me, call me."
I stood up to give her a hug, then left the studio so I could go home.
When I heard the front door open, I was hit with a wave of emotions. When Briana walked in the kitchen, she seemed confused.
"What's going on?" she asked slowly.
I grabbed her hand and led her to the table where dinner was set up. She looked at me skeptically, then back at the table.
"Did you cook?" she asked, "are you trying kill me?"
I chuckled and shook my head, "no. I got some help from your mom."
She nodded and sat in the chair I pulled out for her. I sat in the chair beside her as she held her head down.
"Bri, I'm sorry."
She scrunched up her eyebrows and shook her head, "for what?"
"For the things I said to you earlier. I didn't mean any of it; I was just mad. And for being such a shitty husband. I love you, and I'm tired of upsetting you so much."
She looked up and blinked a few times while biting the corner of her lip.
"Where is this coming from?"
I chuckled, "I had a little talk with KJ earlier."
She laughed for the first time all day, "you got advice from a three year old?"
"Yeah," I chuckled again, "he said he doesn't like it when I upset you, and he asked me to stop."
"That's cute," she smiled, "well in that case, I accept your apology."
I smiled for the first time in days and let out a sigh of relief. I sat back in the chair and thought about something she said earlier that kinda bothered me.
"Can I ask you something?"
"Earlier...when you said you'll always come in second to Alana...is that how you really feel?" I asked slowly.
She looked up until her eyes met mine and nodded. "Yeah."
She chuckled and scratched the top of her head, "come on, Blake. You've always put that girl before me."
"No I --"
"Yeah you do," she chuckled again, "you either bitch at me because of her, you let her disrespect me, or you go out of your way to disrespect me to please her."
I sat there trying to think of a time any of that ever happened, but I couldn't think of anything.
"I don't --"
"Remember when she was in jail and she called you and asked you to come see her? And remember when I asked you not to go, but you went anyway?"
"And Cory told me about the time she called me a bitch ass cunt that can't keep a baby and you...you laughed about it."
I almost forgot about that. Dammit!
"But it's not just me she's disrespected. Remember when she called Ford a ba--"
"Please don't remind me," I cringed.
She pulled her chair closer to mine, so we were face to face, "look, I know I could've handled the situation much better than I did, but there's nothing you can say or do to make me want to apologize to her. With the way she treats people, she'll never get sympathy from me."
"I understand, but I need you to understand that you'll always be number one. I love you and only you."
"Then start acting like it," she said, hitting me upside the head.
I laughed, then pulled her onto my lap. Without any hesitation, I cupped her face and kissed her like I hadn't seen her in ages. I just pray to God we never have to go through that again.
