"Look, princesa. You're my world, you're everything I've ever wanted. I know we'll never be together, I know we'll never have the future I dream of. But you'll get the wonderful future you dream of, I know you will. You deserve it," I whisper into her neck, barely audible enough.
I freeze when she shuffles around a bit.
Oh no, no no no.
Did she hear?
Is she awake?
I pretend I'm asleep when she wakes up, immediately I feel her trying to squirm out of my arms.
'Going somewhere?'
'My mama is going to come in here to wake me up for school, you idiot.'
'When?'
'...an hour.'
'So we've got an hour, let's make the most of it!' I nestle against her back, embracing her affectionately.
'Argh, you are literally the worst.'
'I'm the best. By the way, did you like that super awesome book I got you?'
'Well... yeah. Okay fine just shut up,' she gives in.
I snicker at her grumpy silence.
She sits her hand over mine, rubbing soothing circles with her thumb.
The caring gesture tickles at my heart, engulfing it with a rush of devotion. I relax, letting go of Madrigal pressures. As long as we're here, right now, together. I'll be okay.

"Everyone pair up, someone you work well with is preferred," at the teacher's instructions, everyone in the room begins moving towards their desired friend.
I find myself practically gravitating in Amira's direction, I enjoyed working with her. She'd helped me with homework before, I wasn't exactly the smartest guy so she was patient with me. As I'm making my way over to her, someone else grabs my arm and whisks me to the corner of the room, where it's a little less crowded.
"Uh, my friends have already grabbed partners," it's Erika.
"What about Amira?" I ask a little sceptical while scanning my eyes over the room once more, searching for my best friend.
"I just saw Andres walking over to her so I just assumed... sorry was that rude of me? To drag you over here?"
Andres, of course he was.
Whatever, it's not my business.
"No... problem..." I'm basically ignoring her, which I realise, "hey, do you want to be partner for this weirdly important project?" I slip my hands into my pockets.
"Y-yeah! I mean, yeah. Sure," she tucks a loose strand of hair behind her ear.
"Are you okay?" I notice her face is a little pink. She ducks her face so I can't see anymore, "Yep, yepyepyep. I am doing super great, partner. Heh."
"...cool?" I furrow an eyebrow, puzzled, "so my place. After school."
"Your place!?"
"Uh, yeah. For the project? Well, unless you'd like to work somewhere else, casita can get a little distracting when it comes to new people."
"Oh right, yeah. The project. Mhm, your place is fine."
"Nice," I point lazy finger guns at her, before pocketing my hands once more.
-Amira's pov-
"Ami, hey! Can I call you that?" Andres jogs over to me, a casual hand on his hip.
"Sure, doesn't matter that much."
"I think you already know what I'm doing here right?"
"Fine, I'll tell the coffee kid that he shouldn't be consuming that much caffeine on a daily basis."
He chuckles before correcting me, "no silly, I'm going to need you to be my partner for this extremely random project considering it's only the second day of school. But who cares about that, the author has to progress the story someway."
"Huh?"
"Partner?"
"Heh, yeah why not."
"Great, we should probably go to your house, I have a billion younger siblings who haven't learned what personal space means yet."
A soft giggle escapes my mouth without me realising, ew, since when does my laugh sound like that. I clamp a hand over my mouth out of pure confusion, he notices though.
"Your laugh is nice you know, no need to hide it," I reaches up to pull my hand away, now he's pretty much holding my hand.
Oh god, oh god, oh god, oh god.
Why is his face so sweet.
SHUT UP AMIRA.
Ooooohhh his hand is so soft.
ARGH.
"Heh, whatever you say," I awkwardly snatch my hand back.

As I'm leaving school with Andres, I spot Erika laughing with Camilo.
'Ooo, you and Erika ay?'
'Nope. You and me ay?' Camilo shoots back with the same thing.
'Nononono.'
"Hold on Andres, got to go have a quick girl chat with Erika," I mention before darting over to Erika and Camilo.
I grasp Erika's wrist, "mind if I borrow your girlfriend for a sec?" before Camilo can respond I'm dragging Erika off.
"What was that about!? Camilo and I were talking!" She whines.
"Exactly! I'm just super excited for you two and I couldn't wait for tomorrow to ask you about it!" I'm pretty much squealing at this point, I really wouldn't be surprised if the guys heard me.
"Well... we're going to hang out at his house! Not exactly hang out, it's more like working but I really hope we hang out like friends after!"
"That's awesome! I can already see it, Camilo Madrigal's wife, Erika Madrigal," I say dramatically.
"Okay okay, I got to go, don't want to keep him waiting!" She beams while pacing away.
