Chapter 24 Sins of the Past

Clarke POV

"Why are they in a holding cell? They aren't a threat." My dad asks while I am starting to wonder what we may have stumbled into. It is obvious to me that Liv may have an agenda my father is unaware of. Political intrigue was never his thing. That was more my mom...my only thought had really just been to see him and so we stumbled blindly into whatever this was.

And what the hell is it?

"I need to see them." My dad nods.

Aurora steps in, "I'll take her Jake, you stay with Abby." She says giving my dad a look I don't fully understand.

As we make our way down a series of halls she is watchful and we make a turn into a deserted area. She stops at a door and knocks three times, then once, then twice. It opens and we are pulled inside quickly.

I expect to see Bellamy and the others but they are not the faces that greet me. At my look of confusion she says, " Clarke, I promise I will take you to Bellamy but you need to know something first. You and your mother are not safe here. Jake and I may not be safe anymore either. "

My eyes widen and I find myself wondering if I can trust her. As I look around I see we are in a mechanical storage room of sorts with various things lying around. There is a control board on one side and several screens with video feeds. It is easy to see, being the daughter of the top engineer on the Ark that this was a totally hasty and illegal setup.
Aurora is speaking to a man she calls Dave.

"Do you have what I need?"

"Yes, here is a set of comm lincs" he says handing her two small pieces of metal. "You attach them like this" he instructs showing her how to insert it in her mouth attached to one of her teeth. "This will let you speak to us" he hands her a second piece that he inserts in her right ear, it is so small it can't be seen unless you are looking for it. "This will let us speak to you. We have scrambled the frequency so it is secure."

He then hands her a small pin. "Attach this to your collar, it is a small camera, it will help us know what is going on in the event we require visual feedback." Aurora nods and hands me a comm linc and also.

"What about weapons? " she asks

"Here" he says handing her a pistol. She looks at me.

"Clarke I assume you know how to use this?" I nod and she hands it to me. While he hands her another one. As she is getting other supplies I glance at the camera. "Wick!" I watch him walking with Liv and Emerson my heart sinks

She glances up. "You know him?"

"He was helping us, Liv was threatening him to help her. The other guy Emerson is dangerous. " I state hoping I have not made a mistake in trusting her.

She looks at Dave, "you need to make contact with Wick and keep your eye on the other two. We can't let them get near Abby."

"May we meet again" he nods to us both.

"Clarke we have to go now before they wonder what is taking so long. "

"What is going on? What is this place?"

"These are friends that are helping us and you don't need to know more right now.
Do you trust me?" She says looking me in the eye. I nod "I promise I will explain soon but now we have to get Bellamy and Octavia. "

Bellamy POV

Liv steps in, her demeanor changed, to tell us that Clarke would be in shortly. She wasn't openly hostile, but I didn't trust her for a minute. As she stepped out I heard her talking to a man, I thought I recognized his voice but...if it is we may be in trouble.

As we are left alone I turn to Octavia and say quietly.
"Did they take all of your weapons? "

"I have a knife in my boot and another strapped to my thigh" she whispers. "Why?"

"I think I heard Emerson's voice. We may be in trouble."

"Are you sure?" Kane asks alarmed.

"No. I only heard his voice I didn't see his face, but we need to be on guard." I reply. "We really need to find Clarke and Abby. Do you think we can trust Wick?" Kane and O both shrug.

After several minutes we hear a thud, a lock click and in walks Clarke and my mom. They drag in the body of the guard who has been knocked out.
Emerson.

Mom holds her arms open wide and we both rush to hug her without hesitation. Octavia crying openly. I will admit my eyes leaked a bit.

Sort of.

I give Clarke a hug and a quick peck on the lips. She looks at me and I can tell immediately that something is not right.

As my mom releases Octavia she catches sight of Kane and I see her look of surprise.

"Marcus?" Her voice breathless

I raise my eyebrows as they greet each other with an embrace.

She glances at me. "Tie him up quickly. " Once he is secured she says. "Now, stay with me, stay close, be on guard"
She opens the door, takes a look around and leads us into the hall.

Jake POV

After Aurora leaves Abby and I grab some things from my bedroom and head out before Liv has time to get here. We have to get to the meeting point. The fact that Liv locked up Aurora's kids means she can't be trusted. I hope my realization is not too late.

We head down the hall to a section hardly used and I slide a grate out so we can slip into the ventilation system. Abby follows and I put the grate back in place.

After we walk for a few minutes Abby speaks. "What is going on?"

"Do you remember project Jaha?"

Her face clouds and she nods. How could anyone forget the experiments that were done on the old and young alike back on the Ark? Subjects were chosen who either had no family or no skills so they were considered not useful for anything else.

"Well lets just say there are a few people here who found out about it. They already killed Jaha over it and now they are after the lead Doctor on the project."

"Jake I had no choice! You know what they would have done to Clarke!" She says tears in her eyes and a look of fear and horror on her face.

I turn to look at her. "Abby I am so sorry. If I had any idea Liv was planning to bring you here I never would have told her about Clarke. I put you both in danger and I am sorry. I just wanted to see my daughter. We have to get out of here before Liv finds you. Aurora went to get the others out and get some weapons."

Abby POV

We are at a point that we are no longer able to walk, we have to crawl.

When Jake brought up project Jaha it was like he punched me in the stomach. Those poor people! It went against everything I stood for as a doctor, and yet, I had no choice. It was to protect Clarke. That was why I complied...wasn't it? To protect my family?

I was a hypocrite. No better than the savages at Mt. Weather. Hell, I was the reason my husband was supposedly floated and my daughter arrested. I hadn't protected anyone let alone my family.

It looks like my past sins were coming back to haunt me and just like before the price may be my family.
