“Sarah, I really need you to come and get me.” I sobbed down the phone to my friend.
“What happened?” She asked carefully. I knew that she was genuinely concerned.
“Matt, and- and-” I just couldn’t say it. It hurt me too much.
“Mhmm” I snivelled. I really needed my friend to collect me and take me home. Being here was no good for me, it just made me unhappy.
“I’m on my way, where are you?” I told Sarah where I was and then she hung up the phone rather decisively.
I fell back on to my bed in the hotel room. I had to get away from Matt and Valary. I just had to leave them all.
There were so many fears running through my head. They’re probably already back together, I thought to myself. That idea hurt me more than anything. It hurt, not only for me, but for Matt too. I knew the feelings of hurt only too well. At least I hadn’t had it as bad as him.
Going on tour with Avenged Sevenfold had been one of the worst mistakes of my entire life. I didn’t blame Mikey Way for any of this though. If he hadn’t told me about what he had witnessed then Matt would probably be still messing around with me.
As I lay there, I could slowly feel myself drifting into sleep.
“Get the fuck away from us, Valary, and don’t ever dare come back!” I screamed at the woman that I had once loved, and now had screwed up the best relationship I have yet experienced.
When I had discovered the note that Charlotte had left for me, I transcended my usual rage, and became infuriated with Valary.
As I grabbed her suit case and dumped it outside, I watched her with a blank expression on my face.
She gave me a look of hurt, betrayal and confusion. This, I knew was fake. I smiled sarcastically and waved to her before turning around and walking away; something that I should have done a long time ago.
I retreated back to my room and lay on the bed in retrospect. I just wanted to hold her. I had no idea where she was or if she was okay. It didn’t take a genius to work out the latter.
I sighed a deep, drawn-out sigh as Synyster walked cautiously into my room.
“Matt,” he started with an unusually concerned tone in his voice. “Are you doing okay?” I could nothing but shake my head slowly.
He nodded and left me alone, taking extra care to shut the door quietly upon his exit.
I lay there, pondering. How could I find her? Was she still in Quebec?
My heart was a safe that Charlotte had broken into. She had removed the contents and ripped them to shreds in front of my own eyes. I was hurting more so than I had when I found out about Valary’s little surprise.
I glanced over at the clock and my stomach sank as I saw that it was nearly time to do the show. I felt sorry for the fans. They could tell that something was missing from the performance.
I hauled myself up and met with the guys backstage.
“You ready?” Zack asked me. I nodded reluctantly.
I knew that this night was going to be a long one.
By the time I woke up, it was midnight and I had thirteen missed calls from Sarah.
I picked up my phone and dialled her number.
“Why aren’t you answering your door or your phone?” Sarah asked assertively.
“I’ve been asleep. Are you here?” I asked hopefully.
“Yes, we’re outside your room. Jenna came too.”
With that I hung up the phone and opened the door to find Sarah and Jenna standing outside. They looked exhausted.
I invited them in and they told me that they were too tired to drive, therefore were spending a night here.
I burst into to tears rather rapidly, and without warning.
“What happened?” They asked in unison.
“Well, Mikey said that he saw Matt and Valary getting “cosy” together. And I believe him because they were alone together before we all came in this afternoon and-”
“STOP!” Sarah interjected. “You’re rambling and make no sense.”
“THE Mikey way?” Jenna asked excitedly. I rolled my eyes. I loved how she could be sometimes.
After explaining properly to my friends about the situation at hand they were eager to input their opinions.
“I think you should call him. Charlotte, he’s worth it if you are this upset.”
I shook my head. “What would I say to him?”
“Whatever you feel like saying to him.” Jenna contributed empathetically.
“You know what,” Sarah said with a playful look on her face. “I think we should forget about this for now and have some fun.”
With that, we headed down to the hotel bar.
Walking off stage felt a little easier tonight. Throughout the show I hadn’t felt Val’s presence watching me, and it felt good.
The guys wanted me to go to an after party but I just wasn’t in the mood.
I said goodnight to them all and walked slowly back to my room.
As I got closer, I could hear a strange rumbling noise coming from beside my bed. I briskly opened the door and reached down to grab my phone.
I looked at the caller I.D
It was Charlotte. I was unsure as to whether or not to answer the phone for what she could say would either make me happy, or hurt me.
I decided that there was more to gain than to lose.
“Charlotte?” I answered, trying to sound as chirpy as possible.
“Matt I- I-” She was evidently drunk.
“How much have you had to drink?” I interjected.
She started crying down the phone. Over the past few days, she had done a lot of that.
“Matt, I’m sorry and I love you and I just want to see you again. I didn’t mean to say what I did and write that note. But I was just so angry and I didn’t want to come in between you and Valary because I know that you still love her and my friends told me that the baby could be yours and I-” Charlotte ended her tirade with drunken, incoherent babbling.
“I can assure you that the baby is not mine. Can you tell me where you are so that I can come and get you?”
“NO!” She screamed down the phone. “I’m not going anywhere near Valary. She has ruined our relationship!” I could hear Charlotte slowly starting to return to the world of sobriety.
“Have you gone back to Toronto?” I asked, hoping that she hadn’t.
“No, Sarah and Jenna are here at my hotel with me.”
“Well, please let me come and explain about Valary. I need to talk to you.”
“I don’t want to Matt, I mean I do but it makes me unhappy and I don’t want to be with someone who makes me feel like that and please just don’t come to my hotel room.”
It was clear just how confused Charlotte was. She was babbling in one long sentence and not making any sense. Just then, to my joy, Jenna shouted out the name of the hotel.
I heard Charlotte screaming at Jenna for what she had just done and hung up the phone. I needed to get her back.
I snuck out of my room and called a taxi.
