Chapter 140

It's been a couple days since that whole incident with Alana, and Briana hasn't really said much to me since. We celebrated Ford's birthday the other day, and she barely said two words to me.

I walked in the bedroom, and she was putting her shoes on. I figured now would be a good time to get her to talk to me.

"I gotta go."

She stood up from the bed and tried to walk out of the room, but I stepped in front of her.

"Can we talk for a minute?"

"I can't," she said without making eye contact, "I gotta go."

She tried to go around me, but I moved in front of her again. I was determined to talk to her because I'm tired of her being mad at me.

"It won't take long. Please?"

She pursed her lips together, sat on the bed and held her head down, fiddling with her fingers. I let out a sigh of relief, then sat next to her.

"So, what's up?"

"I wanna talk to you about what happened the other day," I said slowly, "wh--"

"Look, I'm sorry, okay? I shouldn't have acted like that toward you, but I will not apologize to her because I'm not sorry for what I did."

"Can I go now? Rehearsal starts in an hour & a half, and I wanna be early," she said, standing up.

I sighed and ran my hand down my face, "no. You're not going anywhere until we talk about this."

She groaned, rolled her eyes and sat back down, tucking her feet under her thighs.

"Talk about what? I apologized. That's what you wanted, right?"

"You apologized to the wrong person," I said, turning to face her, "and I don't understand how you could be so insensitive to her about something like this."

She rolled her eyes again & got off the bed, "I already told you I'm not apologizing to her. And if this is what you wanna talk about, I'm leaving."

She tried to walk out again, but I went up behind her and grabbed her arm. She sighed deeply as I pulled her back to the bed.

"Why do you always run away from your problems instead of facing them?!"

I knew I shouldn't have said that. Her eyes suddenly got dark, her nose started to flare, and she bit the inside of her cheek.

"Bri, I didn't mea--"

"Yeah you did. So since you feel the need to tell me about myself, go ahead."

What the hell did I just do?

"Go ahead," she said, "I'm waiting to hear what I did wrong?"

I know I'll regret this but...

"You were wrong for what you did to Alana," I confessed, "you laughing and the comment you made was uncalled for, and the fight was unnecessary."

She was uncomfortably quiet for a long time. I watched the angry tears build up in her eyes as she bit her bottom lip.

"So she swung at me in your house, but I was wrong for hitting her? Was I just supposed to pretend she didn't try to hit me or what?"

"You did kinda provoke her."

Why did I just say that?!

She shook her head and chuckled in disbelief, "do you miss Alana or something? Because I mean, you are dick-riding her real hard right now. Do you wish you would've married her instead of me?"

This is the first time Briana has ever really pissed me off. I don't know why that bothered me, but it did.

"Just stop, okay?"

"Stop what? All I did was ask you a question. Did I hit a nerve?"

"You stood there and watched her walk up to me and hit me in the face, while you just held me. My jaw got fucked up because of you, yet I'm the one who's wrong for fighting her. That's fucking fantastic, Blake."

"I didn't know she was gonna hit you," I lied.

I didn't wanna piss her off more than she already is, so I lied.

"Of course. Defend your little girlfriend," she said, rolling her eyes, "tell me something -- what is the infatuation you have with Alana?"

"What are y--"

"There's obviously something about her you're obsessed with. Whenever it comes to her, I'm always the bad guy to you."

I really wanted to know where she was going with this, so I just let her rant.

"This is the same woman that shoved a knife into my fucking stomach four times in an attempt to kill me, yet here you are defending her. But I guess I can't expect much from you, right? Because even when I was lying in that hospital about to bleed to death, you chose to go see her first."

"Briana, what are you trying to say?" I asked skeptically.

She looked me in the eyes and pressed her tongue against her top lip, which usually means she's genuinely upset.

"No matter how much you claim you 'love' me, I will always come in second to Alana," she said calmly, "there...I said it."

It honestly felt like she reached into my chest, ripped out my heart and danced on it. I didn't even know what to say back.

"Can I go now?" she asked dryly.

I let go off her arm and she walked out of the bedroom. No kiss, no hug, not even a "see you later." She just walked out.

What the hell have I done?
