FRUSTRATION GRUMBLED OUT OF A BLOND'S MOUTH AS HE looked through the files again of the previous cases.

He was in his study, hoping that he could find some link, if any, to the Crimson Raven murders. Ever since the killing of his stepfather, Mamoru swore that he would find whoever killed him when he got older.

Twenty-five years later, he was still back to square one.

A knock on the door got his attention and he rubbed at his tired hues.

"Mamoru, are you still at it with the files? It's already ten o'clock." the worried voice of his husband, Aka, was heard through the door.

Mamoru ran a hand through his hair, looking over at the clock. Ah shit, his husband was right. He had almost gone overtime on the files.

"Ah crud, you're right. Let me fix these up and come with you to bed." Mamoru cleaned up and opened the door, seeing Aka there.

Aka had dark brown skin like he did, his hair (Aka's hair) red, short, and curly. His magenta hues reflected the loving smile on his face, donned in his pajamas.

"I was starting to get a bit worried for you, you know, since you had been in that study for hours, honey." Aka spoke up, resting a hand on his husband's cheek. "You've been at this ever since that day."

Mamoru rested his hand on Aka's, nodding solemnly as his blue hues looked away from him. He still remembered the day vividly in his mind, seeing his stepfather lying on the floor when Mamoru had come home from school. Throughout his time in Kiyosumi academy, he was motivated to trying to find his stepdad's killer when he wasn't busy with homework. He remembered his mom trying to tell him that it would be best to leave it up to the police. But as time went on and Mamoru later made his own agency after graduating college...his stepfather's murder was still not solved. It had gone cold.

"I think that you should have a break. All this stuff can definitely burn someone out." Aka suggested, moving his hand to the top of Mamoru's back.

Mamoru made eye contact with Aka again, letting out a hearty chuckle. "You're beginning to sound like my mother. I mean that in a good way of course."

Aka shared the same chuckle. "Well, we've both been worrying about and this case for a long time now. But enough of that. Let's head to bed. You have to get up early to help give a tour to that new recruit tomorrow, remember?"

"Mhm." Mamoru hummed before a yawn left his lips. He got ready for bed after heading to their bedroom, the couple sharing a good night kiss before they drifted to sleep.

Tomorrow was a new day...and also one that would be something the detective wouldn't expect.
