Lana's POV:
When Lana finished her shift, she could barely contain her excitement. Lana and Mildred had agreed to meet at reception at the end of the day.
After clocking out the brunette took a seat in reception patiently waiting for the older nurse, trying her hardest not to look too smitten as she thought about the redhead and what the evening had in store for the two women. Is this a date? Lana found herself wondering but immediately shrugged it off. Just 2 work colleagues grabbing a drink together after a long day at the hospital, she told herself.
Discreetly checking her watch, the brunette frowned in confusion. It was 6:20pm, Mildred was supposed to finish 20 minutes ago, and yet Lana had been sat waiting for her since 5:55pm. Her heart sank at the possibility that Mildred had already left without her, deciding that her offer to grab a drink had been a mistake.. along with their kiss.
The brunette debated whether to wait a little longer just in case Mildred was running a bit late or just to leave, save herself the humiliation she felt slowly rise within her. After a couple moments she decided on neither of those options and instead made her way over to the reception desk where Nurse Dolly was rifling through a stack of papers.
"Nurse Dolly,"
At the sound of her name the younger nurse looked up, casting a warm gaze towards the brunette, a pleasant smile tugging at her red tinted lips. "Miss Winters, shouldn't you have finished like 20 minutes ago?" She asked with a hint of amusement to her voice as she took a quick glance at the clock.
The brunette chuckled lightly in response before breezily asking; "I was just wondering, has Nurse Ratched left for the evening?"
The blonde nurse thought for a moment, pursing her lips as she silently racked her brain. "Well I've been down here since 5:30 and I haven't seen her.. one sec I'll check to see if she's clocked out yet."
Lana appreciated Nurse Dolly's attentiveness as she scanned the computer screen carefully. "No she hasn't clocked out yet, she's probably still with a patient. I can call her down for you if you like?"
"No thank you, that won't be necessary, I'll just wait." The brunette replied, relief washing over her that Mildred had only been held up rather than the alternative of just leaving without her.
"So.. how you finding it so far?" Nurse Dolly asked trying to make small talk and Lana was thankful for the brief distraction.
"It's.. different than what I had imagined." Lana replied honestly.
"You'll get used to it." The young nurse reassured her before adding; "So how come everyone calls you Miss Winters instead of Nurse Winters?"
Because I'm not actually a nurse, Lana thought and inwardly cringed at how awful Nurse Winters sounded to her. That was her mother, not her. "I just prefer Miss Winters I guess." She shrugged nonchalantly, hoping Mildred wouldn't keep her waiting too much longer. Nurse Dolly seemed like a lovely girl but the more questions she asked meant the more Lana had to lie; which had become increasingly difficult.
The young nurse opened her mouth to say something else but before she could, Mildred arrived, her timing as impeccable as ever. "Sorry to keep you waiting Miss Winters." She announced, and Nurse Dolly seemed just as shocked as Lana at her unusually polite disposition.
