What a lousy job.
You don't even like kids! I thought to myself. And I've got a robot as a work partner?!
With turn-of-the-century technology, the pizzaplex was mainly operated by the animatronics and miscellaneous AI staff. Luckily enough, they needed a certain percentage of human staff members to make sure there weren't any...issues with the animatronics. I would've glazed over the job offering if it wasn't for the salary, I could use the money to get a better apartment. Then again, I had to sign a loss of life waiver, so I'm not sure if this one of my better life decisions.
I had been assigned to the ever-so-wonderful daycare, despite my blatant awkwardness with any kid under 10. It's fine, I reassured myself as I made my way to the daycare entrance, you'll get the hang of it with time. I pushed open the doors, and I already felt something glob onto my shoe. I looked down and sighed, picking my foot out of the puddle of glitter glue. Frankly, the daycare looked (and smelled) like a glitter glue bomb had just gone off, complete with kids smearing whatever they could get their hands on with it.
"Okay...we can handle this" I murmured to myself.
"We sure can, sunbeam!" Said an overenthusiastic voice directly behind me. I jolted and whirled around, but irritation turned to shock as I was met face-to-face with the animatronic. He giggled excitedly as he scooped me up into a big, inescapable embrace. "Oh, sunbeam! We've been so excited to meet you!" He felt soft, almost human-like, and he smelled like a fresh breath of air...but maybe that was just the glitter glue fumes getting to my head.
"W-Wait! We?! I was only assigned one partner!" I protested, trying to wiggle out of his grip. No luck. He giggled again.
"You're so silly, sunbeam! It's just one body, but you get two partners! How fun is that?" He lowered me gently to the ground, crouching his massive figure to meet my face. "I'm Sundrop! And don't worry- you'll get to meet Moondrop soon enough, but I'm sure he'll want to personally introduce himself."
"Uh-" I opened my mouth to ask a million questions, but Sun interjected.
"No need for introductions, Y/N! Your information has already been uploaded to our database. More time to play, don't ya think!?" His grin widened as he guided me by the hand into the chaos, the daycare doors slamming shut as we moved further into the room.
