Sasha’s face was so happy; it probably would have given off light. And my parents... Well, they weren’t exactly excited about the situation.
My Dad was clutching my Mom, and she was clutching my Dad like two little kids holding each other in fear. Blair was looking at me, wide-eyed, while swimming away from us.
I grabbed onto Murphy’s fin with a devious smile, my strength returning wicked fast, and said in my mind, LET’S GO MURPH!
Automatically, his body straightened, then shot off like a bullet, parallel to the beach.
I heard my parents scream, “CRYSTAL! DON’T—“ but their screams were interrupted when I yelled out, “WOO! YEAH!”
The adrenaline rush felt amazing! Holding on to Murphy’s fin, like there was no tomorrow, I let out a yell, “MURPHY, DIVE!”
Immediately, we started diving down into the water. Thankfully, I can breathe because of the gills behind my ears, but it took me a while to get used to it.
I started having a coughing fit, trying to get used to the water, and once Murphy heard me, he immediately slowed down.
I’m fine. Ready? I asked excitedly.
OH YEAH! LET’S DO THIS THING! He shouted excitedly. In my brain.
Just one moment of clarification - when someone telepathically shouts in your brain, it hurts! I swear, it rattled every part of my head.
Once I got used to the water, we started shooting up towards the surface. I beat my tail against the water like I was being chased by a rabid kraken.
I totally forgot that once I’m in the air, I would breathe air. I expelled the water from my lungs and held the little oxygen in.
The surface of the water exploded with a giant “GOOD MORNIN’ AMERICA!” from me.
Murphy had shot so far in the sky that I could barely see my parents, Sasha, and Blair on the beach. I was still holding on to Murphy’s fin when we did a triple flip in the air. Once he was finished showing off, I let go of his fin, and did a perfect dive into the water with a little splash. And Murphy entered the water so... like a shark, that when I came up for air, he nearly drowned me with the title wave he created.
Finally! I’m free! He said excitedly.
Crystal, can I stay out here for a while? I’m hungry. Like REALLY hungry.
I sighed, Fine, but wait until I get out of the water first. I don’t want to see you eat.
YAAAAAAAY! He yelled again.
I rolled my eyes with a smirk and swam towards the shore where Sasha, Blair, my Mom, and my Dad were all slack-jawed, and dumb founded.
I pulled up to the shore and got out, and suddenly, like a reawakened instinct, she sprinted over to me and pushed my tail back under the waves.
“Ah, what?” I asked.
She looked at me with a face that said, Well DUH!
I immediately understood what she meant and pushed myself even more under the water.
“I’ll go get you some clothes.” She said as she told everybody else, “Okay, the girl needs privacy! Let’s go people!” They all walked back to the house, all of them looking back at me with surprise, and disbelief in their faces.
I laughed out loud and went under the waves to kill time.
