"Mora, your phone ringing" Jaelen said nudging her.

She turned over in the bed and searched for her phone.

Once she found it, she answered.

Hello?

Hi, I'm Nurse Smith. I need you to come to Johnson's Children's Hospital immediately. For Kamari James.

By time as the lady hung up, Ximora had her shoes on.

"J-jaelen get up, KJ's in the hospital. Can you drive me?"

He got up and slid his feet in his slides.

"They say what happened?" He asked as he sped out the parking lot.

She shook her head and started calling her mom, each time it went to voicemail.

"Now this bitch not answering" she shook her head.

"Can you drive faster what the fuck"

"Hi, I got a call about Kamari James. I'm her sister" Ximora said walking up to the front desk.

"You'll have to wait, she's being treated"

"Can you tell me what's going on?" Ximora asked.

"I can't because you're not her guardian, maybe ask the police over there" the lady told her.

Ximora huffed and walked over to them.

"Hi I'm Kamari's sister, what's going on?"

"Oh yea we were looking for you.." one of them said.

"The neighbors called because they heard screaming, when we arrived Kamari was barely conscious with bruising and your mother was dead along with her boyfriend running off" he told her.

"We're not exactly sure what happened. But from what Kamari did tell us, the boyfriend probably beat on Kamari and when Sherise tried to stop it he shot her, then ran off. We're looking for him"

"Is Kamari okay?" Jaelen asked.

The officer nodded "The doctors said she has a broken arm, we can escort you to see her"

Jaelen wrapped his arm around Ximora's shoulder as they followed them to the room.

"JAELEN" KJ smiled as he came in first.

"How you feeling baby?" He asked sitting by her bed.

"My arm and my tummy hurts" she told him.

Ximora guiltily eyed the cast on her arm and sat down.

"I'm gonna get some snacks, what y'all want?" Ximora asked.

"I want chips and a Gatorade" KJ said.

"I want the same" Jaelen told her.

She quickly exited the room and headed to the vending machine.

"Baby you straight?" Jaelen asked as she sat in the lounge near the machine.

"Jaelen it's my fault, if I just left the custody thing alone she would've still been with me" Ximora said.

He shook his head "Yea she may have been with you today, but you being smart by getting legal custody. What if Sherise came back later on for KJ and something worse happened?"

"I feel so bad and then you warned me" she said causing him to feel bad.

"Nah I just was talking, you did the right thing. If you ain take her back you would've been in jail right now" he said.
