She was finally safe.
As if on sync, we both embraced each other in a hug I didn't quite know I needed. She was here, her arms wrapped tightly around me, sobbing into my chest, she was safe, and I was glad about that, my entire existence was glad about that.
My chin rested on her hair as I hugged her back with the same grip. I pulled away after a few moments and rested my hands on both side of her cheeks.
"Are you okay?" I asked her and she looked straight into my eyes, her cheeks were ruby red.
She nodded sincerely, before she said, "Freddy...I'm so sorry."
"Shh, it's okay, it's alright Amelia. I'm just glad you're alright."
We went back to hugging each other, we juts stood there in each other's embrace for who knows how long in a comfortable silence before we walked over to my car.
______
Amelia's Pov
Even though I had pushed him away,
he still came to my rescue
He still cared
He was still a good friend
And he was my first boy hug...and this was definitely the best most needed hug I had ever had.
________
Freddy's Pov
Amelia was seated in the passenger seat looking out the window, and I was driving her home. There was complete silence and not the so comfortable one, I occasionally gave her side glances and everytime she appeared to be in deep thought. I wondered what was going on in that mind of hers.
I know alot had happened today and the past week, with the whole bullying and home-school and not talking to each other thing. But I still wish she could say something... anything.
A few moments of silence passed and she spoke, "That park over there, " she said pointing outside the window as she cracked a smile, " I would go and play with Molly there sometimes, best moments I spent with her."
I placed my hand on top of hers as a way of comfort.
She quickly glanced at me before she looked back outside and continued talking, " It only makes sense that she cared for me because I cared for her back, in her weakest moments and no matter what happened, I was still always so good to her. And you... you've always been so nice and caring to me and how did I repay you? By pushing you away and being mean." She pulled her hand away from mine and looked at me. "I don't deserve a caring person or a friend like you, and you don't deserve a selfish person like myself"
"Would you please just stop with that Amelia, I mean are you even hearing yourself? Selfish? You're the most selfless person I know. You need to relax, you're taking it to hard on yourself, we all make mistakes Amelia, and you need to ease your mind and understand that." I try to explain. And for the next few minutes, as we're getting close to her house, it's completely quiet again, no doubt that there is tension...and it's suffocating...arghh, how did we even end up in an argument?!
I park at the end of her driveway, because I notice a car that I haven't seen before parked near the house so I want to leave enough space for the person to drive their car out. Maybe Amelia's parents have some guests or something like that, but I don't think Amelia even notices the car because just immediately after I've parked she immediately removes her seat belt, opens the door and walks out of it.
"No I don't understand!" She yells and I know that she's replying to my previous statement, "I don't understand why you'd still care Freddy, just take my advice and free yourself from me!" She slams the door and walks towards her front porch.
I would have been mad at the fact that she slammed my car door but I was more mad at the fact that she was blaming everything on herself and taking it so far.
I groaned in frustration before I equally got out of my car and slammed the door.
Well, that was definitely not helping the car.
I followed after her, "Amelia, what's wrong? Why do you keep on talking like that?!"
She turned to face me, " Because you and I just very different people Freddy, With different statuses in school and society and everything, we don't mix!"
"And I've told you that I don't care about that! Look Amelia, if we were so different then we wouldn't have actually enjoyed hanging out together and doing things like baking and dancing."
"It's not only that Freddy..."
" Then what is it?!"
"You know what, just forget about it." She says before she turns and start walking towards her house door, but I immediately put my hand over her wrist and pull her back to me. I place my other hand on her waist to stop her from colliding into me and immediately become aware of the position we're in.
She's looking up at me, staring at my eyes and I'm equally staring into hers, her beautiful golden eyes, I wondered how much beautiful they would be without her glasses. The world around us just seemed to stop and it was just her and I. I slowly raised my hand to her cheek and placed the few strands of hair on her face behind her ear.
"Freddy... I'm...I'm not worth your care." She says quietly.
My eyes flicker to her lips.
"Amelia...shush" I say
My lips land on hers. They are soft, sweet and for the first few seconds she doesn't do anything, but she then kisses me back, her lips move gently and delicately on mine. One of my hands is on her waist and the other is on her cheek, my thumb caressing her cheek and my fingers touching her soft hair.
We pull away and her eyes are searching my face, shocked by what just happened but also not letting go of me.
"I'm not leaving you Amelia...I can't" I say.
There is this glint in her eyes and for a second, it looks like her eyes are tearing up. I create some distance between the both of us as I place both of my hands on her shoulders, I'm about to say something when the front door opens.
We immediately create more distance from each other and I turn to see that the person who opened the door was none other than
Nathan.
Well isn't that the highlight of today?
My face immediately dropped.
