me and my siblings were driving to this isolated town, this was only because we were scaring away customers.
my family owns a restaurant and i've got to admit scaring the customers with our gifts was pretty funny only to get scolded right after.
we came to a full stop, "okay! you guys have fun with your aunt and uncle." papa said getting out of the drivers seat
"whyd we have to move again?!" my older sister, gabriela asked
our dog bueno jumped out the car and sat in the shade waiting
"so you three can spend some time with your tía and tio!" mama said and helped us get our bags
we said our goodbyes and they drove off without another word.
don't get me wrong, i love my parents but they tried everything to get rid of us.
we started walking through the town a girl, who looked about my age, with shortish wavy hair bumped into me and a group of kids followed her.
"sorry!" she said and ran away from the group of kids.
"what's her problem.." angel said quietly,
"leave her alone, angel, she seems nice!" i defended her, its hard having a sour patch kid for a brother.
"gabriela! y/n! angel!" i turned around and our tía and tio were a couple feet away from us
they ran and hugged us, "oh it's so good to see you!!" my tía ava said
we made our way to their house and we unpacked everything, angel and i had to share a room with bunk beds.
gabriela got a room right next to ours, i was unpacking my clothes and organizing them and there was a knock on the door.
"i'll get it!" gabby called out
she opened the door and i rushed over to see who it was, it was the same girl with shortish wavy hair and two others.
one of them had a bun and was maybe gabbys age, someone who looked like her brother had curly hair.
"hi! i remember you.. we bumped into eachother like 10 minutes ago! im mira-" the girl with wavy hair started
"im camilo!!" the boy with curly hair said and started shaking my hand rapidly
"camilo.." the girl with the bun said looking at him.
"im y/n, it's nice to meet you guys!" i said and looked over my shoulder to see gabby talking to the girl with the bun.
"oh, that's my sister doleres, and this is my cousin mirabel!" he said pointing to the two.
mirabel stood their awkwardly and she said, "you guys are new in town, right? we brought conchas!" she said and handed the container to me
"oh, yeah!" i looked down and saw camilo was still shaking my hand.
"camilo, you're gonna rip her hand off..!" mirabel said
"oh, aha, sorry." he said and then shape shifted into some people i've seen walking through the town.
"you can shape shift?!" i said
"yeah! pretty cool, huh? i'm not gonna brag but i'm pretty sure i have the best gift in my family." he said whispering and winking
"my siblings and i have gifts too!"
"for real?! what can you do?" he said with bright eyes
"i can create illusions, my twin brother can talk to the dead, and my sister can fix things with a touch!" i said, excited, new friends on the first day? i love this town already.
"no way, you have to show me an illusion sometime.. also, my little brother is getting this gift tomorrow. you coming?" he said,
"oh sure!" i said and angel came outside.
"..who's this?" he said looking at camilo.
"this is camilo, camilo this is angel, my twin brother." i said rolling my eyes,
"okay.." he said walking backwards inside.
"camilo, you ready?" doleres said, mirabel waved goodbye and so did camilo.
hm, gift ceremony.
"gabby, did doleres tell you about the gift ceremony?" i asked,
"oh yeah, we're definitely going she said most of the town is going!" she answered.
"what are you guys talking about?" angel said rubbing his eye
"well if you stayed outside.. you would know!" gabby said.
"listen it's HOT outside. i don't feel like standing there talking to random people." he said
i sat there watching them both as i ate the conchas mirabel gave us.
"jesus, you're so mean, angel, learn to socialize!" gabby said walking into her room
"i'm not mean! i just have character!" he said yelling at her.
"give me one of those." he said snatching one from the container and walked into our room, jesus.
i followed him into our room, "camilo said his little brother is having a gift ceremony and the entire town is going." i said and sat down on a chair
"so? i'm not going, you can't make me go." he snapped
"i never said you had to go, but tio leo is gonna make you go, just a heads up!!" i said and opened the closet
i scanned it looking for a dress to wear tomorrow.
"fine i'll go, only if they have more conchas." he said laughing
i threw five out and eliminated three of them.
"are you just gonna stare at them or pick?" he said eating another concha.
eventually i picked and went to the living room to find aunt ava cooking ajiaco.
"have you heard of the gift ceremony tomorrow?" she said
"oh yeah! camilo, doleres, and mirabel stopped by earlier today." i said then gabby and angel walked in.
"such nice kids, and they're around your age as well." tio leo said
we ate and then we went to bed.
i thought about camilo, he was such a nice boy, he was pretty too.
