Chapter 7-The Unlucky One
"Wow. This is a good list of names," George told us.
I looked away, and Brandon said nothing. His expression was blank as always.
"Looks like Cassie isn't as worthless as you originally thought, right Brandon?" George said as he set the paper down on his desk.
Brandon shrugged. "I'm not convinced yet."
I frowned how dare they talk about me as if I'm not here! I decided to keep my mouth shut though. Brandon did not seem to be in a good mood.
"We will work on the list tomorrow. You two should go have some fun."
I raised my eyebrows at the word fun. These vampires knew how to have fun? I had a feeling our definitions of fun were very different. Brandon's definition of fun included torture.
Brandon began walking off briskly, and I took it as my queue to follow. He went into the driver's seat of the car. I sat in the passenger's seat silently brooding. I was hating Brandon more and more. I still had yet to repay him for what happened earlier.
Brandon must have sensed it. "What do you want to drive?" He snapped.
I shrunk more in my seat. "I don't know how." I whispered.
Brandon started the car. "Why not?"
"Why do you care?" I asked.
Brandon glared at me darkly. "Don't answer my questions with questions. Do you really want to be taught another lesson tonight?"
I glared back at him defiantly. Brandon was just a mean bully. I looked away toward the window. "After I was turned, I stopped going anywhere. I avoided people because I was afraid I would hurt them. I didn't like people much when I was human either. I was afraid of them. The only times I came out of my apartment was to go shopping. Most of the time I just ordered stuff online."
"How did you feed then?" He asked.
I flinched I didn't want to talk about this anymore. I turned to look at him. "Animal blood."
Brandon looked disgusted. "So what you hunted squirrels in the woods?"
"No. I became the friend of a butcher," I replied.
"Really? So he never asked you about it or anything?"
"I told him I needed it for my religious practices."
Brandon burst into laughter. I looked at him with shock. I didn't understand what was so funny.
"What is so funny?"
He leaned his head back against the head rest, and he turned to stare at me. He grinned. "You don't look like one of those people at all. You blush or flinch when I even cuss. You are scared of practically everything. Your clothing choice doesn't exactly scream member of a blood cult or demon worshipper either. I think you look more like one of those old ladies who play bingo on weekends. Bingo is probably the most exciting thing you have ever done."
I frowned. He was mocking me! "I have done things more interesting than bingo."
"Oh," he said questioningly. "What?"
