-Sapphires POV-

Winter. The cold icy season, my favourite one of the year. It's the middle of January and there hasn't been any snow so far, so at least I can go out at night and not become too cold. I was sat on a branch of a tree in the forest behind my house; it always has been one of my favourite places since I moved here when I was 5, now ten years later I still love the house and the surrounding area. The house was a converted old barn that was surrounded by a field with plenty of trees; just off of the field was a small town where I went to school. That was the view that I was drawing in my sketchbook, the sun was just beginning to set over the horizon causing different shades of light to be cast over the sky. So beautiful, so calm, so human. After all the years I have lived here, such small human things still amuse a witch demon like me. Half demon, half human and as for my parents, they left, they brought the house, send me money each month for food and other items but I never see them.

As I finish shading in the last building on my sketch, I close the book and place it in the hole in the trunk of the tree, I always draw sat there so I don't see the point in carrying it around. Finding my balance, I walk along the large branch that leads to my bedroom window and climb in through it. I glance over at my clock to see that it was only 7 o’clock; I climbed into bed deciding that if I was going to be out in the forest later on then I might as well get some sleep. I stared at my ceiling as sleep slowly faded over me.

I was stood in the middle of what I think was a field; I was surrounded by a thick fog that I could hardly see through it. The only thing I could see was the dark outline of a tall figure, from what I could see, the person was well built and carried a large sword in their hand. They spoke in a rough voice, shouting something but I couldn't make out the words. I felt a rough tug pulling me backwards...

********************************************

I shot up in my bed; it was a dream, just a dream. I looked over at my clock, the glowing hands showed that it was half 4 in the morning, I pushed the covers off and stood up dragging on some clothes and my old black converse. I yanked open my window and stepped out onto the tree branch shutting the window behind me. I jumped from branch to branch in the darkness of the night; I knew the layout of the forest like the back of my hand. It wasn't long before I arrived at the black lake; it wasn't really black but always looked it under the moonlight. I jumped out of the tree and landed gracefully next to the water, the best part about the area was that no humans could find this place because it is protected and no demons had ever appeared either. It was the perfect spot to practice my powers; the lake was my hideout, my training ground and my secret place. I raised my hands in front of me and focused my energy causing the water to rise and form a wall shape before freezing. I then sent another wave of energy which shattered the ice causing shards to fly anywhere. I stepped closer to the water and tossed a few stones into it causing a series of ripples. Focusing on them, I worked on masking my energy, after a few seconds the ripples had faded away and my energy was masked, no one would be able to tell I was a demon. I slipped off my shoes and wandered into the shallow part of the water until it reached my ankles. Somewhere behind me I heard the snap of a twig and felt a strong energy from behind me, I jumped out of the water and landed on the large boulder that was near the edge of the water.

"Who are you and why are you here?" I asked without turning around to face them. I scanned the area around me but saw nothing, I heard a small mocking laugh come from the tree near me which caused me to look up. Due to the position of the moon, I could only make out his shadow, he seemed slightly taller than me, had spiky hair and what looked like a sword attached to his side. This was unusual, he was the first person to ever go there since I found the place.

"I won't tell you my name, Human, you have no need or right to know" he replied in his deep voice. I could almost feel the smirk that was bound to be on his face. He thought lowly of me, if only he knew the truth.

"This is my land, you are trespassing, now tell me your name." I said through my teeth as I felt my anger levels rise.

"Trespassing, believe me that is not problem if I'm here. You don't own me you pathetic human." He muttered loud enough for me to hear, I could feel my patience being worn away but by bit. I could sense his impatience and his energy, what do we have here, demon.

"Pathetic" I muttered under my breath, I felt a gust of wind around me, I involuntarily shivered at the slight coldness it brought with it. I looked back up at the tree but the figure was gone.

"I am not pathetic, I could kill you in under a second" his voice said from behind me as he pressed the sharp blade against my neck. I angled my hand towards him and sent a shot of energy towards his stomach causing him to fall backwards. I didn't bother with masking my energy at the moment so he could tell that I wasn't human. I stood over him and grabbed his sword out of his hand.

"I refuse to tell you my name, you may not be human but I refuse to trust you, for now you may call me Jagan" He mumbled with the slight sound of surrender in his voice.

"Jagan?" I asked slightly confused "as in the Jagan eye?"

"Yes, how do you know of the Jagan eye?" He questioned with some surprise in his voice.

"I am Sapphire Mantine, A witch demon" I replied calmly. I stepped back allowing him to sit up, it was still dark which meant that I couldn't see his face. I held his sword towards him, all sword fighters knew that this was a way of forming a truce. He took his sword out of my hands and put it away as I sat down. For the next hour and a half we sat and talked, he refused to say much about himself or his past, but we all had our secrets. He stood and turned to leave just as the sun began to appear over the horizon.

"You aren't to be feared but at the same time you are not weak, you are a strong fighter, I will return here tomorrow if you wish to see me", He spoke before he was gone with yet another gust of wind.

I stood up and brushed myself off before heading back to my house to get ready for school.
