Chapter 13 :- The Air War

"Fish

Are in.

Four hundred kilometres.

Off the western shoreline."

Commander Subilwayo zeroed the targets,

And locked the shore batteries in.

"Activate the Interceptor Drones. Alert Space Command."

The Indonesian Air Commander stalked his onscreen quarry,

The flashing targets becoming more numerous as time progressed.

Soon the whole ocean seemed awash with enemies. Hated SeaSkimmers.

"Azir!

You're airborne!

Zero in Targets!"

Azir calmly scanned them,

Innured with the rigours of training,

He confidently chose a flurry of targets,

Which he would engage, knowing his stalwart companions,

Were only a few kilometres away from his position.

His interceptor drone dropped from its lofty position. He responded.

"Engaging.

First Wave,

Sector Delta Rua.

Enemy are still underwater."

Behind him; ten unmanned Drones.

By cyber implants he controlled them.

They swept out from the billowing clouds,

And intently strove out before his own Interceptor.

"Cyber defences holding. Reserve units incoming," he reported back.

"Ocean sensors picking up more SeaSkimmers, all unmanned and underwater."

"Malek!"

Azir phoned,

To his brother,

In an Interceptor Drone,

Seventeen kilometres to the north.

Malek's implanted mobile answered. He replied.

"All SeaSkimmers are unmanned. Entering cover position."

Both had always dreamed of becoming military pilots.

Perhaps it was the guilt of killing their father,

During the revolutionary years, who once flew vaunted Indonesian Flankers.

But,

The Flankers,

Were long obsolete,

Rusting away in museums.

Neo Century warefare was decided,

With unmanned combat aircraft, remotely controlled,

As the brothers now, by nearby humans.

Their father would have been unable to understand,

The intricacies of modern warfare Neo Century style. Yet,

They were certain, somewhere he was watching them. With pride.

Absorbed,

They observed,

Their radar screens.
