PRESENT DAY - EMERGENCE SITE

Losing someone exceptionally significant can thoroughly distort people's lives. The unbearable suffering that would never wither was only one of the unpleasant aspects of it.

Along with the bundle of pure heartache came the self-doubt, the wondering if you could've done something to save your lost companion, and the grief. Most people are familiar with the five stages of grief: denial, anger, depression, bargaining, and acceptance. Y/n didn't care for any of that.

She desired revenge.

Living without Druig, the man who loved her since they first arrived on earth's soil, was a death sentence to her. No matter how much she frantically craved to blame his death on Ikaris, she criticized herself for not being able to save him.

FLASHBACK 1

"I promise I will always be here to bring you back," he guaranteed. "You're too strong to lose control, and the love you have for everyone will win."

"I promise to love you forever. That way it's fair." she giggled.

He smiled, "I promise to love you forever too."

FLASHBACK END

Each promise that he made reminisced in her mind, tormenting her in the most rigorous way conceivable.

FLASHBACK 2

"You truly pick the worst times to flirt." Y/n giggling, peppering kisses onto her husband's face. "Promise me again that I won't lose you."

Druig nodded, snaking his hands around her waist. "I promise."

FLASHBACK END

All the years of devoted recollections with her husband mocked her, reminding her of what she had lost. Her thrill for her future eternity ended.

FLASHBACK 3

"I've realized I've kept something hidden for far too long, and it is essentially hopeless for me to hold it back any further," Druig said with formal attire on, planning to fulfill his promise. His hand entwined with hers, rendering the girl's heart to thump as if it would beat out of her chest.

As their hearts thumped in unison, Druig continued, "I have fallen for you, Y/n, and I will never regret it."

FLASHBACK END

Everything she looked forward to achieving with her spouse relentlessly tortured her, haunting her mind and making it pulsate as each memory materialized. The more she stared at Ikaris, the more the guilt intensified inside him. Connecting her fist with his face repeatedly, she felt as if her ability to breathe had been snatched away. Rather than the punches of violence earning her some redemption, it only brought her more hopelessness.

"How could you?" she whispered with resentment laced in her tone as she launched Ikaris onto the ground, accumulating black power in her hands.

"I had to!" Ikaris shouted, lifting himself off the ground as she attacked him, propelling her power towards him. Unfortunately, he evaded every endeavor.

"Just like you had to kill Ajak?" Y/n cried out as her unmanageable power resumed assembling around her, constructing what seemed to be an eternal flame, which was something she could never do before. Retreating from the scene in front of him out of uncertainty, Ikaris began attacking the Domo, compelling it to brutally collide on the ground.

"Druig was right when he said I trusted people too much," Y/n declared openly, ascending to Ikaris and latching her hands onto him. Flinging him away from the others without remorse as Makkari zipped Phastos and Thena out of the Domo, Y/n didn't hinder her ability anymore.

"Perhaps if you listened to him, he would still be alive," Ikaris uttered out of nowhere. Once those words escaped past his lips, his eyes broadened, noticing the sorrowful expression plastered on Y/n's face.

"I dare you to say that again, brother." Y/n fumed, pleading Ikaris to restate his preceding sentence. Aware of how much damage his words and actions caused, he remained mute, not venturing to repeat it. "I hope you're content." Desperate, she hurled globes of flames towards him, making him grunt as it slightly scuffed his shoulder.

"Thank you, Ikaris. I think I am finally ready to embrace my power." Y/n chuckled humorlessly, ultimately welcoming the sensation of her strength.
