Today I had my meeting with Diddy and I was sort of anxious about the entire thing. During the week, I had recorded a handful of songs for him to listen to, but I wasn't sure how he was going to react to it all. I was proud of them - incredibly proud. With the help of Kells and Slim, I was able to put my songs together and see them evolve from paper and ink to actual music.
I straightened my black lace top as I politely waved to his secretary as I took a seat in the small waiting room. She nodded in my direction, picking up the phone on her desk and quickly dialing a short combination of numbers. I couldn't hear from where I sat across the way, but I knew she was talking to Diddy; she was letting him know I was here. It was just a few seconds until his office door opened and he poked his head out.
"Niykee?" He grinned when his eyes laid on me. "Hey girl, come on in."
I stood up from my seat, making my way over to the now open door. As I walked in, I was welcomed by the familiar scent of his infamous cologne. I followed him across the room to his desk where he motioned me to sit in the vacant chair in front of it. He smiled as he sat down.
"How have you been?" he asked as he leaned back in his chair.
I grinned. "I'm great. I'm really excited to show you the songs I've been working on."
He chuckled, nodding. "I bet. I hear you've been in the studio non-stop." He paused, searching around the room before laying his eyes back on me. "Is Lauren going to be joining us?" he asked.
I shook my head. "Actually no," I sighed. "She had to fly back home to Florida. Her mom is having surgery, so it's just me today."
He nodded understandingly. "You ready to show me what you got?"
I grinned, nodding. First I had him listen to "I'm Ready", then "Sober", and a few others. After every song ended, he gave me an exceptional review. I felt as if I was on a natural high.
"So let's talk," he said finally. I held my breath. "I want to release an EP soon - real soon. I want you to get your name out there." He leaned back in his chair. "You need to start figuring out what songs you want on it, what you want to title it, etcetera, etcetera... " He leaned forward toward his desk. "I want it to be classic Niykee. I don't want you to be afraid to be yourself."
I smiled. I needed to hear that.
"But," he said suddenly. "I do have an artist who already wants to work with you. Apparently he's a fan..." he trailed off, glancing up at me to see my reaction. My eyebrows rose; I was a little shocked. Who - in the music industry - already wanted to collab with me?
A smile broke across my face. "Really? Who?"
I was walking toward the elevator, texting LP, when I felt myself collide with a solid form. I looked up from my phone, a little stunned at the sudden collision, when my eyes were met with his clear blue ones. "Hey," he grinned, scanning my face. "You should really watch where you're going."
I laughed slightly, running my hands through my blonde hair. "Sorry," I muttered. As I walked around him to get to the elevator, he didn't leave my side. I was a little too preoccupied at the moment to deal with him.
"Hey," he said, grabbing my arm to gain my attention. He turned my body to face him. "What's wrong?" he asked.
I shook my head. "Nothing - I'm just really busy." I sighed. "I just had a meeting with Diddy. He wants me to get a bunch of songs together for an EP. I've been recording so much recently that I haven't had the time to actually write new material." I looked up at him; he had a grave look on his face, as if he was in deep thought.
