Chapter 20: Confessions

Chapter 20:

With a much needed paint job, the old white Toyota Avalon managed its way over bumpy roads and cracked tarmac. Rick was seated in the drivers seat, positioned on a soft cushioning and his posture relaxed from its usual stiff stance.

Beside him, Michonne had her legs lifted up on the dashboard and Judith nestled in the creases of her shirt. Michonne's head was tilted in Rick's direction as they exchanged quiet words and glances between each other.

Behind them, in the back seat were Carl, Rebecca and Cody. Cody and Carl were sitting beside each other, chatting about their past experiences with Pokémon. As boring as it was for Rebecca, she didn't complain. All she was left to do was rest her head against the window and lazily watch as the trees flew by her in a blur.

"Shit!" Rick exclaimed, frightening Rebecca a little too much that she jumped and knocked her elbow on the side.

"Ouch," she muttered and cradled her arm.

Carl looked over, "Hey, you alright?" he asked as his eyes raked over her arm, looking for any bruises or cuts.

"Yeah, I'm fine."

Cody straightened up in his seat and leant forward. "What's going on Rick?"

"The roads are blocked up ahead." Rick slammed his head against the steering wheel in anger, "Fuck! I knew this would happen. Nothing is ever easy in this god damn world anymore."

Michonne glared at Rick and covered Judith's ears. "You are going to wake your daughter up. Keep your voice down." She scolded quietly. "We can go back and take a left on that road we went past earlier, but I highly doubt it will lead us in the right direction since it goes further into the trees."

Stressfully Rick ran a hand through his long hair and pushed it out of his face. "I'll go talk to the others," he murmured quietly. He smoothed the small hairs on Judith's head before hopping out of the car and harshly slamming the door closed on his way out.

Once the car settled into an awkward silence, Cody began to chuckle. He tried muffling the sound in his hands but it only increased the sound and their confusion. "How have you put up with him for your whole life?" He shook his head with a smile playing at his thin cracked lips.

Carl rolled his eyes and leant back sinking into the only warmth he could get. His eyes did look over to Rebecca for a split second until he looked away and a dark red blush coated his cheeks. "I don't know, he wasn't as bad I guess." He said, answering Cody's previous question.

"He's probably sexually frustrated, since you killed your m--"

With widened eyes, Carl spun around and punched Cody in the jaw. "Don't you mention that shit again!" He roared.

Cody cussed and held his jaw in his hands. "It slipped man, I swear. As if you haven't told Rebecca anyway,"

Hearing her name, Rebecca met Cody's eyes. "Told me what?" She questioned, looking between both boys.

Carl shot daggers at Cody, pure rage firing up inside of him. "Now you got her curious. When will you learn to keep your mouth closed?" He looked over to Rebecca. She was expecting him to tell her, since they had gotten a little closer she thought he could at least trust her a little more, so when Carl replied, her heart sank. "Drop it."

"Why don't you just tell her, it's not a big deal." Cody exclaimed right before wincing at the pain of his throbbing jaw.

"Not a big deal? First of all, you don't know jack shit about what I went through and how I felt. So don't you fucking tell me it's not a big deal, like I can just forget about it and move on. Secondly, Rebecca doesn't need to be invading my personal life. She doesn't need to know every personal thing about me, alright? So cut it out and fuck off." Cody was pissing Carl off. Rebecca felt shattered and Cody was left stunned.
