dear jen,

i think you should know that these letters weren't my idea - they were my drama teacher's.

technically, she suggested writing letters to liz, but what's the point of writing letters to a dead person?

i guess you could say the same about you, though - you're not dead, but what's the point of writing letters to someone who'll never read them?

i'm not sure. at least you're alive. you're the most alive person i know - i keep saying that, but only because it's true.

i'm writing this in history. you're arguing with our teacher and people are smiling and listening because you matter to them - i told you you're popular.

i'm sat at the fourth desk from the back and even the teacher has a kind of smile in her eyes as she argues with you because you make people smile, jen, seriously, you do, and even the boys who focus on figures and looks and sex see you as more than that, because you have a way of making people care and want to talk to you and all the rest of it.

you just won the argument. the teacher is smiling widely now, and so is everyone else. i am too.
