Adam looked down at the town he had destroyed. He had to leave. He had to run before he was taken by force. This want supposed to happen, and yet, there was no stopping it. This was his fault. He glanced down at his amulet. It was supposed to protect him. Help him at any time he needed it. Give him what he needs to pull him through. I guess he was the only one that could help now. He took a deep breath in and did the one thing that always calmed him down.
"When the days are cold, and the cards all fold, and the saints we see are all made of gold."
Ian felt his sunglasses hit the bridge of his nose as he regained control. He hastily pulled out a small, tattered, leather-bound journal. He turned to the last written on page and saw three new marks, each made with blood. A tear hit the page and mingled with the blood. It looked as if it had come to life. Wishful thinking, sure, but he knew it would get him nowhere fast. He slipped the notebook back and listened to the silence. Then singing pierced it from a ways away. It was the perfect song for the moment. He continued where one had left off.
"When your dreams all fail, and the ones we hail are the worst of all, and the blood's run stale."
Adam heard the singing continue. That line made him think of one of his best friends. He was always one to cheer you up, never to let you down. He was always humble, no matter how many people said he was great. Adam loved him once, but looking down at the town he thought, who could ever love a demon like me? He didn't want to hurt him.
"I wanna hide the truth, I wanna shelter you,"
"But with the beast inside, there's nowhere we can hide."
Adam turned towards the voice to see someone he never thought to see again. "Ian?" he whispered, scared to think it might all be a mirage. Ian smiled, a tear hitting the soil as he walked towards Adam. "I'm so sorry," he whispered. Adam nodded. He knew better than anyone.
"No matter what we breed," Ian sang.
"We still are made of greed," Adam followed.
"This is my kingdom come."
"This is my kingdom come."
Adam pulled off his sunglasses and let his eyes shine, shine like the sun in the crystal blue sky. Shine like the moon in the inky black night. Shine like the brightest star in the night sky.
"When you feel my heat, look into my eyes. It's where my demons hide. It's where my demons hide."
Ian smiled. He pulled out the small notebook and opened it, showing the three marks of blood, the tear still on the page.
"Don't get too close. It's dark inside. It's where my demons hide. It's where my demons hide."
The two men held hands as they looked at the destroyed town, almost as if it were the lake over which the sun rose. "They'll be coming now," Adam whispered. Ian looked at him with pity. "Then let's make these next few moments last."
"At the curtains call. It's the last of all," he sang softly.
"When the lights fade out, all the sinners crawl."
Two men from the village came crawling out of the ruins. They were weak and injured, but instead of pleading for help, they went to the two others and pleaded for mercy. Ian and Adam looked at each other and continued to sing, determined to make the best of their last few moments together.
"So they dug your grave, and the masquerade will come calling out at the mess you made."
"Don't wanna let you down, but I am hell bound."
"Though this is all for you, don't wanna hide the truth."
"No matter what we breed, we still are made of greed," they sang, now in perfect harmony, Adam's deep voice pairing perfectly with Ian's higher voice.
"This is my kingdom come. This is my kingdom come."
"When you feel my heat, look into my eyes. It’s where my demons hide. It’s where my demons hide.
"Don’t get too close, it’s dark inside. It’s where my demons hide. It’s where my demons hide."
Two officers in blue uniforms walked up and started yelling at the two men. Surprisingly, they came quietly. They went to court, but giving any good argument, and we're sentenced to death. However, the judge allowed them to give each other their final words before they were killed.
"They say it's what you make," Adam sang to Ian. "I say it's up to fate. It's woven in my soul. I need to let you go"
"Your eyes, they shine so bright," he replied. "I wanna save that light. I can't escape this now, unless you show me how."
They then turned to address the people who awaited their death. They sang in perfect harmony their last words before they were to be killed.
"When you feel my heat, look into my eyes. It’s where my demons hide. It’s where my demons hide. Don’t get too close, it’s dark inside. It’s where my demons hide. It’s where my demons hide."
At that moment their sunglasses fell off at the same time, and, by chance, everyone saw one glimpse of each of their eyes before the dagger plunged into their hearts and they drained of all life.
Then they both lifted their heads and said "You can't kill us. Thought we deserve it, behind the curtain, we are demons. We would gladly die together, but if you set us free we cannot kill." The ropes binding them were cut, and they were let free.
"We are demons in love."
That just happened.
Demons in love.
So...um... go leave a vote, and comment, and all that while I try to recover...
