lxxxiii||new year revelations
"Maria—that better be you!" James' voice shouts as Maria and Regulus walk through the door into the foyer of the Potter Manor, both sighing as James comes boisterously bounding down the staircase. "What the fuck happened?!"
James grabs Maria's face and turns it to examine the bruise on her cheek and Maria shakes her head making him give her a pointed look.
"James, I'm okay." Maria says and James huffs, pulling his younger sister into a hug and sighing into her shoulder. The thought of losing his sister as well has been haunting James ever since he found out about their parents, since it's always been them, Maria and James, he cannot comprehend his life without any of them in it — never mind all of them. He dreads the day she returns to Hogwarts, free to do whatever she desired with her boyfriend and going to Hogsmead — even though they're banned — going on walks in the forest and the train ride. He hates that he cannot be there to protect her every minute of her life, no matter how much he trusts that Regulus would do anything in his power to keep something bad from happening to her.
"It's half past ten, where've you two been off to?" Mary winks as they walk into the living room and Maria sighs with a small smile on her face, squeezing Regulus' hand before rushing over to Mary and Lily.
Regulus rolls his eyes when he hears his name and 'tattoo shop' and Sirius snickers at his brother. The other Black hands Regulus a beer, the boy taking it gratefully and leaning back in his seat and staring over at Maria who glances at him as she speaks to Mary and Lily. He raises his eyebrows at her and she smiles, looking back at the girls, Regulus rolling his eyes.
"The life of the party has arrived!" Marlene says as she strolls in with Dorcas, Alice and Frank following behind the couple.
"Yeah, yeah, life of the party my arse." Sirius scoffs, rolling his eyes. "How we the, uh, 'double date'?"
"Amazing—"
"Torture."
Frank and Alice speak in unison and Alice smacks him on the shoulder making him gasp, "it was! They dragged me to that muggle cinema—and then wanted me to go in this shop with them!"
"It's such a shame." Marlene feigns a pout and Frank holds his middle finger up at the blonde who laughs at him. "I enjoyed it."
"Now that we're all here, can we please for the love of god play some party games?" Mary smiles sweetly and everyone whistles and nods, Maria laughing as Marlene drags Dorcas to the sofa. "What first then?"
"Suck and blow!" Sirius hollers and everyone groans.
"Sirius, almost everyone here has a partner." Remus says from his place slouching in an armchair and Sirius rolls his eyes.
