Lyle reapplied and got accepted and moved right back to New jersey. While the rest of the family stayed in California. While Lyle was at Princeton he was barely passing his classes. Lyle got suspended for a year due to plagiarizing. They lived in calabasas, however after Erik, Lyle, and Craig Cignarelli had burglarized neighbors houses' they moved to Beverly hills. Erik transferred to Beverly Hill high school for his senior year. Lyle's charges were dropped and Erik took full blame for the crime. Erik got probation and was court ordered to take therapy. Erik graduated on June 28, 1989. He had planned on going to UCLA but his father refused to let him go that far away from home and to stay in a dorm even though he wanted to. At some point Jose put Lyle to work at live entertainment to keep him busy. He wasn't liked by his coworkers due to him being the boss's kid also because he was lazy. Rarely show up to work on time and sometimes not at all on nice days to play tennis.
In the spring of 1989 Lyle started dating Tracy Baker and Christie Hayes. Jose told him that Christie had told Jose that she had got pregnant from Lyle and he convinced her to get an abortion and break up with Lyle. On august 15th Erik had witnessed a fight between kitty and Lyle and she had ripped a piece of Lyle's hair off. told Lyle what their father had been doing to him while trying to comfort him. Lyle told Erik that their dad would never hurt him again and Erik stayed in Lyle's bed while Lyle was preparing notes for his conversation with Jose.
On august 17th Lyle confronts Jose and he keeps denying. Erik left the house in the morning and called Lyle multiple times to see if he had spoken to Jose. Lyle told Kitty that he knows what Jose has been doing to Erik and she tries to convince Jose to let Erik live with Lyle in his home. Lyle waited 45 minute to talk to Jose in the study. Erik then arrived home and went to his room. Jose told Erik that "whatever I do with my son is none of your business." Jose said that Erik would be going to UCLA and Lyle back to Princeton.
