Chapter 3 Charlotte's P.O.V

After walking Jenna to her car, Sarah and I made our way back to the arena through the crowds. We linked arms so that we couldn't be separated. The crowd that had started off sparse was becoming denser as we retreated back. The closer we got, the bigger the crowds were. Groups of people were huddled together in the freezing November weather in an effort to keep warm.

Everyone was chattering excitedly about the concert before breaking out into song.

"Hey kid - Do I have your attention?

I know the way you've been living.

Life so reckless, tragedy endless

Welcome to the family."

The atmosphere was incredible. As fans, we all seemed connection through our mutual love for Avenged Sevenfold.

As we were retreating back we were walking in the way of everyone. A few times we were pushed or swore at for "getting in the fucking way" but I didn't care tonight. Nothing could crush my spirits.

For them, the night and the experience were over. But for me, the best was yet to come.

Making our way back up the same, steep steps that we climbed at the beginning of the night told us that it was almost time to meet Avenged Sevenfold.

We were buzzing with excitement as we made our way back to the stage area where we had stood, danced, sang and screamed. It was quiet and deserted so our voices and giggles could clearly be heard backstage where the band was waiting for us.

We were greeted by a brawny security guard covered in tattoos. He looked rather intimidating and had a huge, deep scar that resembled liquorice stretching from his ear to his chin. His hair was shaved and he looked like the stereotypical bouncer.

He pulled a walkie-talkie out of his pocket and spoke to someone.

"The meet and greet contest winner is here with her plus one guest." All I could hear was static on the other end but the security guard seemed to understand just fine.

"Yes, yes I have a picture of her, yes. Okay, bye." His voice was deep and coarse. Definitely intimidating.

He looked over at me before pulling the picture I had submitted to the contest out of his pocket. After scanning me face for about thirty seconds he said "okay Charlotte, you can see them in five minutes."

He went back to talking on his walkie-talkie before putting it back in his pocket and assuming his original position beside the door to backstage.

This was going to seem like the longest five minutes of my life.

"How do I look?" I asked Sarah. I was about to meet my heroes, and I didn't want to look terrible.

"You look absolutely fine," Sarah smiled. "What about me?"

"You look fine too" I retorted. Secretly, I wanted them to like me more than her. I was worried that they would see her and look right past me. Sarah had long, dyed black hair and brown eyes - like me. Her eyeliner was heavy and it hadn't even smudged.

"So, tell me again what happened when Matt Shadows came down from the stage?"

"Well," I babbled excitedly. "Everyone started to swarm around him like bees. My arms were in the air and I was trying to touch him so when they pushed me against the railings, I couldn't push myself back. I thought I was going to topple over. I screamed in pain as my ribs started to push against the side. And that's when he saw me. He came over, motioning for everyone to back away and give me space. Then, he looked at me and our eyes connected."
