Chapter Twelve Part 1
I wiped my hand over my forehead, throwing my blankets off.
Gosh what a stupid, freaky dream.
The sun was up so that meant it was morning, but Kate was still in bed, so it couldn't have been too late. I turned, my bed squeaking as I got up.
Kate turned to look at me, her iPhone in her hand with the head buds in her ears.
"Happy Birthday!" She screamed, jumping up from the bed.
She about knocked me back over from bashing into me with a massive hug.
"Thanks Kate." I muttered, still a little out of it from the dream.
"Well come on, get up. It's like nine and no one has come upstairs to wake us up." She said happily, getting off of me.
"So?"
"Obviously something is up, let's go see what it is." She laughed as she "sneakily" crept over to the door and turned the handle. She turned to me and whisper-shouted, "Come on."
I crawled out of my bed at a snails pace. Once my feet touched the cold wood flooring a shiver went up my spine.
This is going to be a long day.
Kate snuck through the door, making sure it didn't squeak as she squeezed through.
As I neared the door I could hear her light footsteps echoing down the hallway. I leaned out, peering down the hall.
Kate was against the wall, trying to get past the open bathroom door without anyone who might be in there, seeing her. She jumped across the door, landing on her tippy-toes.
"Kate?" I said.
She snapped her head back go look at me.
"Shhh." She shushed, putting a finger to her mouth.
I sighed. "Why can't we just walk down like normal people?"
"Because I want to be different. It's your birthday Codee, it has to be memorable. Plus, what if there is something going on! We don't want anyone to know we are onto them!" she whisper-shouted.
Yeah it will definitely be memorable, first year away from home. Away from Jas and Ricky. Away from my family.
"Codee, Codee." Kate said snapping her fingers in my direction.
"Kate, Kate." I said mocking her, snapping my fingers out to her.
"Come on, someone's on the steps." She whispered.
I followed her to the top of the steps, looking over the railing to see who it was.
Looking down, I saw a mess of dark brown hair, muscles bludging from a dark gray sweater.
"Why is Nick here?" I whispered so he didn't hear us.
"I don't know." She shrugged.
He was obviously on the phone with someone, that's probably why he didn't hear us, lord knows we were loud enough.
"Okay," he said. "Okay yeah I'll be there to pick them up later."
He hung up, throwing his phone across the step he was sitting on. I could tell something was bothering him. I watched as he got up, and walked away, leaving his phone.
Kate crept down the steps with me right behind her. She stopped at the step Nick had previously been sitting on, and picked up his phone.
"What are you doing? You can't just take that." I said grabbing her wrist to stop her.
