I just realized that meeting Sabito was the weirdest stroke of luck. He speaks English too? Like what??
Those were your thoughts as you trudged through the forest the next day. Sabito hadn't really given you a specific place to come to for training, so after telling Tanjiro that you were going to continue to train during the evening somewhere in the forest (to which he seemed pretty okay with it, but told you to be careful of any wild animals), you set off to find the ghost boy.
Initially, you and Bearnice went to the area where you first saw him. Bearnice was able to lead you there with her handy-dandy nose and you spent an hour there calling out for Sabito, calling him fox-boy, masked-boy, foxy-masked-boy, and other such creative nicknames. When none of them managed to get a response, you sighed and continued to walk around.
"Maybe he'll just pop out like a daisy," You muttered, poking your head around a tree before walking onward.
"What are you doing?" A voice called out. You whirled around a saw the boy sitting on a branch in the tree you just walked past.
You accusingly pointed at him. "You! A flower! You are a flower!"
Sabito stared at you.
Wait, no—
"I'm flattered but if you think that will make me go easy on you, then I'm afraid you're mistaken."
"Ah, that reminds me." You snapped your fingers as Sabito leaped from the branch, landing right in front of you, and brought out a practice sword similar to yours. "Why do you speak English?"
"A man should be well-versed in the matters and cultures of the world." He got into position. "So to be the ideal man, I taught myself the language of a country to be able to converse with many its inhabitants."
You raised an eyebrow. "So you chose English? What even went through your mind, dude?"
This should be right after World War One, so it's not like Britain had a very major hold on the country. Did he meet an English person and learn from them?
"I am not inclined to share my story with you, pupil. And in time, you must also learn to converse fluently in Japanese."
"Why? I'm getting pretty good at this point."
Didn't I just call him a flower?
Sabito pointed his wooden sword to your chest. "If you train your mind diligently, your body will soon follow."
"That sounds like some martial arts bullshit."
"Additionally, your Japanese is abysmal. I don't know how Urokodaki and the other boy managed to put up with you for half a year. I have a new level of respect for that old man."
. . . Honestly, I don't blame him at this point.
With that, he rushed at you with his wooden sword raised, barely giving you any time to counter. He immediately gave you a hard time, leaping around you and bouncing off trees, his movements unpredictable and much too fast to keep up with.
"Wait a second—" You whirled around just in time to block Sabito's strike from hitting your head with one of your swords. He let out a curious hum.
