Zachary
The entire week passed by with Hunter and I coming up with ideas about the project. We decided that Hunter will focus on Development and I will be handling Growth. Finally, Friday arrived and we all submitted our first unit. Mr. Hammer was impressed that everyone for once submitted everything without making a fuss.
"Good job guys. I will check and give it to you on Monday so you guys can rectify it," he says before continuing with his lecture.
During the lecture, my eyes directed themselves on Reyhan. The smile didn't go off my face that day when she called me to call her Ray.
I know she prefers her closed ones only to call her that, so when I was told it means that she likes being around me.
The stare might have been long when she turned around gave me a smile. I smile back at her before turning my gaze back to the professor.
Even after having so many encounters with her, she still makes me shy and nervous.
The day passed by and I was excited for tonight. I get to sing the new song I wrote for her. All I only wished for was Ray to be there. I wanted her to hear this song.
"Mum," I call her name as soon as I enter home. "In the library, love," she yells.
"Why are you so happy and cheery all these days. Has something happened?" she asks eyeing me.
"Remember I had told you about a girl named Reyhan?"
"Yes," she says raising her eyebrows.
"I am finally talking to her after so long." I say happily.
My mum laughs heartily at me before muttering "Kids" and continues to read her book.
I kiss her on the cheek before making my way to my room. I take an hour nap.
"Hey Bob." I greet the manager of Tipsy Dipsy.
"Hey kid, how's everything?" he asks referring to my mama's death.
"All good." I said giving him a small smile. I am slowly getting over it but I know my mum uses reading to diverge her thoughts. We let her as long as she is not seated somewhere and crying her eyes out.
"I'll let you know when you can start." He says before I take a seat in his office.
From his office, I can have a look of the entire club. My eyes wander for one person in particular. It's early, the club is not even flooded yet with people.
After an hour, I saw some figures entering the club. I scrutinize my eyes to figure out who they are because the lights were dimmed.
It was Natalie Meyers and Ashton Vil. I waited for a little bit thinking Ray would enter anytime soon.
"You can go son." Bob tells me. I nod and start leaving before glancing one more time to see whether Ray entered or not. As I turned my head, I saw one person entering the club.
Reyhan
After the encounter with Zach, my thoughts were at places. I had so many questions waking in my head. The most important was to get to know him better. The rest of the week passed by pretty fast. On Wednesday, Inanna, mum and I had gone up to the terrace. My mum wanted to sit with us and relax.
We shared a few conversations, joked around before I took my painting and went to Arts & Sharp. I sold two paintings of my paintings. While I was walking back home, I thought that I need to work hard for this competition and win. I badly needed that scholarship. I know that the money I have saved up will last me a year, but I needed to survive my entire college years.
I walked my way to the lake I had found a few days ago. I sat on the rock and drifted myself away from the reality and in to Allah's beauty lying in front of me.
"Ray, my soul, you are strongest girl I have made. I have full faith that after I have leave, you will be the pillar of this family.
My love, I don't want you to choose a corner of the house, sit there and cry your heart out for me, I want you to run in the entire house and light it up. Be the person who lights up everyone around you.
Do not let my absence turn you into a person you aren't. Be me for your mum, Isaac and Inanna, and know that whenever you are in trouble, Allah is just a prayer away from help.
I love you Reyhan and I will always love you even after my departure." This was the last conversation I had with papa before he left us.
To be honest, I needed that at that moment or else I would've lost myself with papa. I am glad and honoured to have a father like him because even in his last days, he managed to make me a better person.
My phone starts ringing bringing me back to reality. "Hey mom."
"Ray, where are you?" my mother asks me. "It's 10.45 pm, where did you go without informing me?" she continues.
She's mad. Oops. "I am here by the lake mom. I found this place a few days ago, so I just came to clear my thoughts." I explain her and leave the Arts & Sharp part out.
"Stay there, I am coming to pick you up." she says before hanging the call.
After 5 minutes, she is seated beside me and enjoying the breeze around her. "This is so peaceful." she moans closing her eyes. She actually moaned. That was funny.
We sat there in silence for a while and then left for home.
It's Friday today, Nat and I have planned to meet at my place tonight. We submitted out first unit of the project. We met on Monday itself and distributed the work.
In the middle of the lecture, I could feel someone staring at me from behind. When I turned out to see, Zach was indeed staring at me intensely. I gave him a smile. He returned one back before turning his gaze away from me.
After school, Nat insisted me that we should go to Tipsy Dipsy Club and from there we would go back to my house together. After persuading me for a hundredth time, I still declined the offer.
I didn't want to go to find myself sulking after listening to that beautiful voice without knowing who the person is. I told her to come at my place after the club in which she agreed with a frown on her face
"I saw the way you were finding that guy who sang the song Ray. I saw the disappointment as well when you couldn't find him. What happens when he is there today and you aren't?" was the last thing she said before walking away.
