As I sit here at the airport waiting for my flight, watching the people around me. Listening to music as time passes by; a girl’s sitting beside me, fidgeting. She looks anxious; she keeps fixing her hair and straightening her dress. She noticed me looking and gave me a smile. She said something but I didn’t hear it. I pulled my earphones out.
“Pardon? I didn’t quite catch that.” I said.
“Oh, I said I’m sorry, for all the fidgeting and stuff.” She laughed nervously. “It’s just that I’m, meeting my boyfriend today. The last time we’ve seen each other was after graduation and I’m just nervous.”
“I understand.” I nodded. Something about this girl reminded me of myself. Reminded me of the times I would sit on that very same bench, uneasy as I wait for him to arrive. “Long distance relationship problems huh?”
“Yeah.” She smiled.
Just as I plugged my earphones back in, the girl sitting beside me stood up and ran to the guy who’s waving relentlessly with a huge smile on his face. They hugged and kissed each other, happiness eminent on their faces as they walked hand in hand.
It was a scene I was accustomed to, it wasn’t that long ago when I was that girl.
Every inch of my body is sweating as I wait for Mason to arrive. I kept fixing my hair, tying it into a ponytail only to take it off again. I can’t decide whether I should put it up or let flow freely or just put it in a braid.
It’s been months since we’ve last seen each other and although we talk over Skype and call and text each other, it’s still different when you’re actually together. I leaving for college was hard on both of us because we just got back together and being apart from each other puts our relationship to the test.
Every time I see a red head something just stirs up inside of me, jealousy, anger; I don’t know what it is but I always find myself picking up the phone to call or text him and just check up on what he’s doing. Ed thinks I’m crazy.
My heart raced as soon as I saw him, he’s scanning the crowd, looking for me. God! He looks so good. He was handsome before but now… now it’s different, he looked matured and hot; extremely hot. I stood up from where I was sitting and waved my hands. His face automatically lit up when he saw me.
The familiar scent hit me as soon as he pulled me in for a hug. I took it all in. I’ve missed him so much!
We had a silly grin on our faces as soon as we pulled away. We’re staring at each other, taking in each other’s appearance. He cupped my face and kissed me and it feels like coming home.
“I missed you.” He said.
That was one of the memories I would want to relive if I was given a chance to, the feeling I felt that day was overwhelming. It amazes me how strong my feelings for him were.
I checked myself in to the hotel I’ll be staying into for the next few days. I didn’t bother unpacking my stuff because I was so exhausted from the flight; I just took a shower and slept.
The next morning, I woke up with 5 voice mails, one from my Mum; asking if I arrived safely, asking how my day’s been. One from Alex; telling me how his surprise for his girlfriend went and complaining how hard medical school is and blaming me for not talking him out of it. Two from Ed; telling me to bring him back a present and one from Adam; saying that if I’m already awake, call him and have coffee.
I called Adam just as he instructed me too and agreed to his offer for coffee. I mean, who turns down coffee right?
A few minutes after I prepared, I took a cab and went to where Adam and I are meeting.
