(Splatoon) Marina Ida x Reader Part 1 (the confession)

     You are an [inkling/octoling] who just so happens to be friends with Off the Hook, the current most popular music group in Inkopolis. You and Pearl have been best friends since you both were kids and you trust her a lot, so when she introduced you to Marina, you were happy to give her a chance.
     Since that fateful meeting, the three of you have been inseparable. They've tried inviting you to join Off the Hook a few times, but you don't really have that much confidence and have politely declined their offer every time.
     Lately, you've started to feel a certain way around Marina. Your hearts beat twice as fast and you can't seem to look her in the eyes. Whenever she smiles at you, you can feel your face burning up. You don't know what's going on. You've never felt this way with anybody before.
     The three of you are having a movie night at Marina's apartment. Things are going smoothly, then Pearl excuses herself to use the bathroom.

Marina: Don't take too long, Pearlie. Or else we WILL start the next movie without you.
Pearl: I'll be quick, don't worry! Just make sure you two don't have too much fun without me!

     This makes you blush.

Y/N: P-Pearl!
Pearl: Relax! I'm only teasing!

     Pearl departs, leaving you and Marina alone. You look over at her. You're still trying to figure out what's happening. What's different about her now? Or maybe it's you? You focus on different parts of her. Her hair, her hand, her lips...

Marina: Um.. Y/N?

     You notice that you've been staring and you look away, blushing. Marina slightly giggles at this, making your stomach do a somersault.

Y/N: S-sorry, I just..

     You desperately try to think of an explanation.

Y/N: .. I thought I saw something. Must've just been a shadow.

     Marina doesn't look fully convinced. In fact, she looks amused more than anything.

Marina: Mhm, I'm sure. Hey, I wonder. If I just...

     Marina scoots closer to you, making you blush and stare at the floor. Marina lets out a chuckle at this too.

Y/N: N-not fair!
Marina: Aww, but you're so cute when you're like this!

     Marina calling you cute made something inside of you jump. You're starting to put the pieces together.
     Suddenly, Marina wraps you in a tight hug, attempting to fluster you more. Your face is burning up at this point and you have definitely figured it out. You like her. You like Marina. It might even be love at this point. Knowing this, you get even more red than before and Marina laughs. Her laugh is like music to you. It's so sweet and smooth. You'd do anything to hear it as often as possible.
     No, Y/N! Snap out of it! Even if she did like you in that way, it's not like you could be together. She's an idol, and you aren't anyone. This though makes you feel sad and Marina notices.

Marina: Hey, you ok?
Y/N: Yeah, I'm fine. Just... thinking.
Marina: Would you be willing to tell me what you're thinking?
Y/N: ... I don't know..

     On one hand, she should deserve to know, but on the other hand, telling her might ruin your friendship.

Marina: If telling me would ease the pain, you know you should, right? And you know that you can tell me anything. I won't force you to say, but just keep that in mind.

     After a few moments, you decide that being honest with her is the most important thing right now.

Y/N: I.. I just realized that.. I think I love you.

     You weren't 100% certain before, but saying it out loud felt so right.
     Marina is silent.

Y/N: I-I'm sorry, I know that I kinda dropped that out of nowhere. It was a shock to me too. And I know that there's probably no chance you like me back. I mean you're so great and I'm just kind of a nobod-MPHH!!!

     Marina interrupts you with a kiss. Her lips are so soft; and the way she's kissing you, this isn't a pity kiss. You can tell that she loves you too.
     After what feels like both the longest and shortest few seconds of your life, she pulls away, leaving you speechless.

Marina: I love you too. And please don't attack yourself like that. You're the best Y/N. You're so kind and thoughtful, charming and funny, not to mention drop dead gorgeous. So try to be kinder to yourself. We can practice that together when I take you out next weekend, kay?
Y/N: ..O-kay...

     Marina giggles.

Marina: Good [boy/girl/preferred pet name]

     Pearl walks back in.

Pearl: Freaking finally!!! I thought you were never gonna confess!
Marina: Thanks, Pearlie!
Y/N: Wait, hang on.. Were you listening this whole time?
Pearl: Yup! Rina asked me to give you two some time alone so she could see if she could get you to confess to her or if she would have to do it.

     You turn back to Marina.

Y/N: You KNEW!?!?
Marina: Well, you weren't exactly the most subtle.
Y/N: I didn't even know until a few minutes ago!
Pearl: You've never felt romantic love before, Bud. I've known you for years and not once have you ever crushed on anyone until now. It's hard to recognize love if you haven't felt it before.

     You blush and bury your face in your hands while Marina pulls you close and strokes your hair, humming. Today was eventful to say the least, but now you've got a cute girlfriend so you aren't complaining.
