Well, it's finally done.

With the exchange of rings, a long kiss and cheers, and after nearly 8 strong and amazing years, today was the day George and I get married.

It had been a long time in the making, with many plans being tossed around. For example, I had seriously considered wearing a dress, however, I figured I would probably just be uncomfortable all day since there's no way I was going to find anything close to my size nor spend a few thousand dollars to get a custom made one.

The venue was also turbulent at first. While a beach wedding would have been nice, temperatures were just staying high all year, and with a September wedding, it could have very well have been over 90 degrees on our wedding day - or even worse, in the middle of a hurricane - so we changed to an indoor venue. The problem was that there's not that many of those in Florida if you exclude churches, which were obviously out of the question.

So that's how we ended up at a hotel. It was quite a nice premises, but it ate through the budget much more than we would have liked. We still had enough for everything else, but not for sure enough if something went wrong. It did at least allow for the reception to be at the same location rather than having people drive.

But planning gets boring quick, which is why I was so happy to be done with it and onto the wedding day. And boy, what a day it was.

It started pretty early, but most of the early morning stuff was just us getting dressed and getting the important figures in order. Nick, George's mom, Cassie, and my dad would all be doing a major role during the event.

With that all in order, we moved on to getting to the venue. While we were staying at the hotel tonight too, it was on the other side of the premises, and we liked the idea Nick brought up of a getaway driver (which was a wedding tradition I did not know existed), so we got him to drive us to the entrance closer to our room as our departure. He was happy to do it, especially since he could get home with less hassle, and we were happy to accept, since we didn't want to walk that whole distance in our tuxedos.

Speaking of the tux, George and I had our own little spins in them. I had a green bow tie while the coat and pants had green highlights, whereas George's bow tie was blue and his whole suit coat and slacks were navy. Black tuxedos are boring, in our opinion.

Nick, as best man to both of us, was wearing a burgundy getup with a similar scheme to George's, minus a regular tie instead of a bow tie. Cassie was my maid of honor and would be wearing a pretty mint-colored dress. And lastly, our ringbearer Patches was wearing an adorable little necktie that she didn't actually despise as much as cats normally do. Overall, I think we were all very fashionable.

We arrived at the venue and were nowhere near the first to be there. Aside from my dad and George's parents, there were several other family members, as well as the photographer and a few food people. Since there were so many people, we all rushed to our proper positions. George and I ducked behind a door in the back, while Nick departed to prepare at the front.

The preparation room was a bit cramped, but as a soon-to-be newlywed couple, that just gave George and I all the more reason to be pressed up against each other in a warm embrace. We were prepared to stay like that all day and forget the wedding, but Cassie came in right on schedule and snapped us out of it.

"You two are on soon. You ready?"

"Been ready for 8 years," I responded readily. George nodded beside me, rubbing his face against my arm.

"Thought so," she smiled. "Anyway, I'll let you know when to go."

My foot tapped excitedly. I couldn't keep still; my mind was racing. George had a determined look on his face, but I could tell he was excited too. You just know people like that when you've been together for 8 years. But as our hands wove together, I felt reassured. And then we were out into the aisle.
