Chapter 10 - Smile

After Aria returns to the shop, John and Remi are left alone.

"Well... I didn't quite grasp what happened, but it's okay, right? We can go back to school now!" Remi told John with a smile on her face always.

But John couldn't take it anymore.

"Remi, when are you going to wipe that fake smile off your face?" John asked

"What fake smile?" Remi asked

"Now you can stop playing games. I've been observing you for a while. When you came to talk to me that night, when we had to pick the school Jack, last week when I came to Safe House to hand over your phone, you had a fake smile on your face every time. You were forcing yourself to smile in front of me." John told

John knew that smile all too well. After spending 3 months in that damn place, that smile appeared on his face every morning when he looked in the mirror at home.

"What are you talking about?" Remi was trying to flutter

"I understand you're pushing yourself in front of me, but I saw a picture of you with Blyke and Isen on your phone's lock screen and you're wearing that smile on them." John went on to explain

"John, you're getting really silly." Remi hit the limit

"So I invited you last night just to be sure. I was actually sure that 19 was Rei, and this was a great opportunity to observe you. The first time I saw you really smiling next to Rei, that made me sure. You can't hide it from me!" John finished his explanation

Then there was a deep silence until Remi broke the silence.

"I hate you even more now." With Remi's words, the atmosphere turned cold. Remi, the person everyone knows, and trusts, was showing her true self for the first time.

"John, I didn't realize you were so smart. I thought you were just as stupid as the others, but I was wrong." Remi's words were harsher now.

"Stupid? Others? Remi, what do you think of the others, tell me!?" The atmosphere was getting tough.

"What am I thinking? I think everyone in this school is stupid and hypocritical. Cecile is the egotistical maniac. Arlo is domineering, he always says he respects my older brother, but throws all his efforts in the trash and does what he wants. Seraphina always sees herself on top of everyone, I was very happy when she lost her powers. The monkeys named Blyke and Isen, who are always hanging around me and acting stupid and trying to make me fall in love with them. Especially Blyke, you saw the costume he made for me, how much more stupid could he be to make me love him!? Before I forget, you! You hypocritical monster! I HATE ALL OF YOU!" Remi threw up all the hatred she had built up inside John

Unexpectedly, John remained calm at these words. Remi kept talking.

"But I have to thank Seraphina for taming a monster like you." Remi's last words gave John a little stir. But he managed to control herself.

"Have you vented your anger?" John asked

"A little bit" Remi replied

"Now we can talk properly then, what's your point?" John asked

"What purpose?" Remi asked

"Why are you hiding your true personality?" John clarified his question

"Why? Because to live comfortably at school." Remi answered honestly

John had been waiting for this answer. Frankly, John was always suspicious of Remi. Remi was the sister of the former King, it was impossible not to know what was going on at the school. But John was not satisfied with this answer.
