Flora's POV

I glance down at my Apple Watch and read the time. 1 am oh the joys of night shift on a Saturday night, while my friends are probably getting wasted at some bar on King Street. However I guess that's what I get for pursuing a career in the Nursing field. 12 hour shifts back to back are very stressful especially for someone like me who is a recent new graduate. Slugged myself through 4 years of nursing school at the University of Toronto, studied for weeks to complete the NCLEX license exam. And now here I am a fully registered nurse on a cardiology floor at Mount Sinai Hospital in downtown Toronto.

I always enjoyed learning about the cardiovascular system in college, knowing the chambers, arteries, veins, nodes, being able to differentiate heart sounds and also being able to read an ECG. The heart in general is such a fascinating part of the body, knowing that without this piece of anatomy you wouldn't be alive in this world. I just knew that I had to be on a cardiology floor after graduating and now I'm where I'm supposed to be.

I noticed tonight that the doctor on call was Dr. Styles the Chief of Cardiology, which is odd because he's usually on during the day shift. Maybe he's covering for someone or they are short-staffed this week? I don't see him that often but I have heard mixed reviews on him. I can't say too much though because I haven't really interacted with him. However one thing I can say is that he's a very good looking man. His brown locks that reach just above his shoulders would make any woman swoon. His sparkling emerald eyes. Yeah he is a very sexy man and all the nurses on the floor would agree.

I learnt from my fellow nurses on the floor however that Dr.Styles likes things a certain way and he hates when someone makes mistakes, which makes me kinda nervous since I'm a new nurse on the floor and haven't been in the field for that long. Let's pray he will be nice to me...

My thoughts get interrupted from a beeping noise coming from the computer indicating something is going wrong with a patient's ECG. The noise was coming from one of my patients, so I quickly got up and ran to my patient's room. His ECG was going haywire but I particularly notice that he has an ST elevation, which was not a good sign... He's having a heart attack! I quickly scramble to get my phone and page Dr. Styles ASAP.

This can either go great and we save him or it can go terribly wrong, but I need Dr. Styles here as fast as I can. I monitor the patient's vital signs, and any other signs or symptoms. Suddenly the patient is starting to sweat and has shortness of breath... oh no this is not good. Fuck where is Dr. Styles?

All of the sudden the ECG machine flatlines. FUCK FUCK FUCK. I quickly pull the cpr lever to make the bed go flat and low as possible and I press the code blue button and yell into the intercom that's in the room. ""CODE BLUE, I REPEAT CODE BLUE, I NEED YOU TO PAGE DR. STYLES STAT". I begin to start compressions, 30 and 2 is the rule. I am actually scared shitless right now because you always end up practicing this in school but never know when you'll actually experience it.

Suddenly the code blue team enters the room with Dr. Styles trailing behind them. I keep on doing compressions and the other nurse does the two breaths through the bag valve mask. After 5 rounds of 30 and 2, it is now time to shock the patient. Since I'm the closest, the nurse hands me the paddles. But all of the sudden it's like I'm having tunnel vision and just freeze. Things are blurry around me and I can't hear anything.

All of the sudden I feel like I'm getting shaken, I focus my eyes and see that Dr. Styles is in front of me, holding my arms roughly and shaking me. "Nurse Flora, give me the fucking paddles" He yells at me. I just freeze, and don't move. Next I know the paddles are ripped out of my hands and I'm pushed to the side. "Stand clear!" Dr. Styles yelled. Everyone moves out of the way and he presses the paddles to the patient's chest.
