I awoke in the early hours of the morning to study for tomorrow's chemistry exam, I sat at the desk In Jude's room as I took my pen between my lips and scrutinized the work in front of me. I barely drank last night but considering Jude nearly downed an entire bottle of Smirnoff he was completely knocked out. I wasn't expecting him to awaken any time soon, I glanced out the window and watched as the autumn leaves fell from the previously evergreen oak trees outside.
I needed these grades to get into the university of my dreams, I didn't know how to tell my parents I didn't want to go to some stupid arts academy in fucking Paris. I always knew I wanted to go to Oxford, I never knew what for but I knew I wanted to go there, I know now that what I want to study isn't ballet, but music. But in a world like this making it in the music industry as a dark skin black woman is nearly impossible, you've got to stand out and do the impossible to get to the top, and for the first time in my life- I wasn't sure if I could make the cut.
