Brightness. White lights and cheering. Noise. Voices rising over each other. "We did it!" "Amazing!" "Lets start!" Pain. Horrible and numbing pain. The brightness started to fade away. I could see orbs of light and blurred faces. "Wow, it looks wonderful!" "After all these years, it works!" The blurred faces moved around each other. "Can you move any part of your body?" Movement. I felt my fingers twitch. "Did you see that?" "It moved!" "It barely moved! We have to make it move something else." The faces stared at me. "Move something else." More movement. My toes curled and my hands clenched. "It actually worked!" Panic. It became hard to breathe. My chest was stiff and didn't move. "Someone get the injec..." The voices faded away. I shook my head and sat up. I backed up to get away. I opened my mouth to talk. Nothing. No voice of my own. Only distressed animal sounds left my mouth. Hands grabbed my arms and legs. I kicked my feet around and tried to pull my arms away. Pain. Hot, burning, intense pain. In my neck. Something thick and sharp pierced my skin. I let out a screech and howled in pain. "Happy birthday and welcome to the world." A deep voice laughed. Darkness. Darkness and emptiness.
