the rays of sunlight hit the wooden floor, decorating the living room of the two friends' apartment.
the creaking of the floorboard always woke up eddy as brett always wakes up earlier.
as the soft sound of the coffee machine fills the apartment, eddy enjoyed the few moments of watching brett wait for his cup to fill.
"good morning, how're you feeling?" eddy waited for a response but was left with silence.
eddy turned his head slightly to just catch a glimpse of brett's slow nod, then returning back to heading towards the bathroom.
spitting out his mouth wash, he called out for brett, "hey, could you make me a cup too? if you don't mind, that is."
"yeah..sure." a small quiver sustained throughout brett's brief answer.
finally finishing from washing up, eddy walks out to see brett sipping his coffee carefully.
brett carefully handed eddy the second cup, eddy giving brett a small "thank you."
"hey, you answered me today. you must be feeling well" eddy praised brett, a shy smile appearing on the shorter man's face.
"yeah, it's calm today." brett's small words made such an impact.
"well, i'm still proud of you for being able to say a few words this morning. when you answered me, i felt so proud!" eddy giggles a little, raising his arms up out of excitement.
brett follows along, returning eddy's small giggles. it was moments like this that would make brett keep going, to keep trying to get better.
but it was also moments like this that make brett's heart pang with hurt. eddy's always been there to help him cheer up and make him say a few words, but he couldn't help feel like a burden to the taller man.
as their giggles dialed down, a soft smile rested on brett's face. the sunlight was warm on their skin, and the scent of coffee wafted around the living room area.
eddy turned his head, admiring brett's profile. how the shape of his nose bridge was sculpted, to his soft lips that were curved into a smile.
the glint of innocence was evident in his eyes as brett admired the scenery outside the window.
thump, thump. there it was again, the feeling of..something. it's been there for a while but eddy could never put his finger on what the emotion was. comfort? content? guilt? love?
eddy blinked continuously. he didn't want to think about his complicated feelings in such a calm moment.
all he wanted to do was admire the smaller man, whether he was talking or silent.
