"You girls all done?" Rikki's voice comes closer as Olivia and I push our empty milkshakes onto the tray.
"Thanks, Rikki," I smile up at her.
"What are you two up to today?" she asks and began to wipe down the table.
I groan and Olivia chuckles, leaning back with a smirk. "I'm trying to convince Evy here to come to a party and get the hell over Asston--Easton."
I glare at her and see Rikki turn to me with a surprised look. "You finally ended things with that boy?" I nod, suddenly feeling more interested in picking a lint off my shorts.
Rikki clicks her tongue approvingly. "I was wondering how long it'd take you to finally come to your senses."
"It only took him sleeping with another girl for her to realize that," Olivia shook her head, her black curls bouncing. I wince as Rikki's eyes widen and she looks to me for confirmation.
"The boy did what?" She looked appalled, her thick Southern accent coming through.
"Exactly, and she's still shutting down my idea of slashing his tires," Olivia crosses her arms and slumps back into her chair.
"Can we please not talk about it," I groan, putting my head into my hands. "Let's get back to the party."
Olivia sat up straight with a huge beam. "So you're coming then?" I don't miss the hopeful note in her voice.
I scowl at her. "No, I'm just saying talking about that is better than talking about my love life--or lack thereof."
She shrugs her sun kissed shoulders. "Maybe the party will get you one again."
I almost laugh as she says this. If anything, this party was the last place I'd be looking to find a boyfriend.
"I'm not really in the mood for a relationship right now," I sigh, picking at the lint once again.
Olivia gets a wicked gleam in her eyes. "Who said anything about a relationship? A casual hookup might get you off that asshole."
I nearly choke on my milkshake. "No way!" I exclaim a little loudly. "Casual hookups are never actually causal. Trust me, they always turn so complicated," I lower my voice after a couple annoyed looks.
Olivia snorts and shakes her head. "Says who? I have a casual hookup every party and see--," she gestures to herself, "--I'm complication free."
"Well, luck must be on your side then because the last time I had a casual hookup, my entire junior year was ruined with name calling and fake rumours."
I shudder as I recall my worst idea to hookup with Brandon Allister. He made my life hell when I decided not to be his booty call every party and essentially got the whole school to turn against me.
This time it was Olivia's turn to frown. "You can't seriously base all your decisions just because of one bad one. So, one hookup didn't work out. But that doesn't mean there aren't plenty of qualified guys out there. It just means you suck at choosing them."
I couldn't really argue with that. First Brandon, now Easton. I really needed to fix my track record.
"To get rid of this bad mojo, you need a quick one tonight," she grins. "Starting with the party."
"But, I'm not even invited," I try again.
She shrugged. "Dylan said I could invite anyone. Besides, no one will probably notice one more person."
