"Why are the walls pulsing?" Cat slugs into the living room with squinted eyes, swaddled in a number of blankets.

I turn and look at her over the back of the blue couch.

"That's what two nights of partying and stripper body shots does to you," I playfully mock.

"Shh," she says, dragging herself to the couch-bed that Luke and Calum had slept on two nights ago. It has since then been folded back into a normal sitting couch, but that doesn't stop Cat from flopping down onto it on her front, burying her face into a decorative cushion.

I smile and continue reading a manuscript. This one seems pretty cool so far. It's a murder mystery set at a theme park in the '80s. A few odd plot-holes so far, but the basic suspense is there. I'm a tough critic when it comes to this genre, so the fact that this author can keep me gripped two thirds in is a win in my books. My narrative for this author is that it's a quirky, 'no filter' ex-history student or a 30-something amateur musician missing their early twenties who has a weird fascination with Netflix crime specials.

"No one went in my room, right?" Cat mumbles, her eyes shut tightly.

Good to know her priorities when she's hungover.

I look up from the manuscript and cock a brow at her even though I know she can't see my expression.

"Catalina, I know your number one room rule. Of course no 'man band' member went in there," I intentionally use her amusing term for the guys in my response.

"Don't full name me when I'm fragile," she groans.

"Okay, okay. I'll get you some tea," I set down the manuscript onto the pile beside me and head for the kitchen.

As the kettle boils, my phone buzzes inside the torso pouch on my corduroy dungaree. I pull it out and check the cause of the buzzes.
