5 Plastic Friends

I asked you to forgive me
You were lying, I could see
When you said it didn't matter
Now our friendship is in tatters.
I can see it in your eyes
You know I don't trust your lies.
We both pretend that it's the truth,
Grinning, showing every tooth.

You're like Barbie, so am I,
Happy looking, cold inside.
Plastic smile, plastic face.
This is a game, this is a race.
Plastic friendship, full of sin.
Only one of us can win.
The loser will be less than dirt,
Bloody, battered, torn, and hurt.

But how did we get this way?
Caring 'bout what others say?
She's not pretty, she's so fat.
Gossip is just made of that.
One of us did something bad,
The other freaked and got so mad.
Revenge was the next stepping stone.
By then our anger was full blown.

Neither one of us forgave.
If I did now, would it save
The scraps of our relationship
Or have I only scratched the tip
Of this girl's hurt, anger at me?
I didn't mean it all you see.
We used to play with Barbies, true.
Now Barbie's me and Barbie's you.

You flash me your next perfect smile
Like a time bomb's ticking dial.
"It's too perfect," I think and sigh.
"Her smile does not reach her eyes."
Another fake and plastic day
I'd almost rather waste away
Than do my makeup, do my hair,
Part my lips and take in air.

We both know the acting's fake,
But I don't do it for her sake.
If we scratch at those red sores
It won't be peace, just all out war.
