Chapter Six: Boom!

Chuckling, Jack sat closer to Lucy. Did you feel that?

The heat?

Yes. Maybe that's our way out

Lucy focussed on her powers again. The sparks from the night before. In the dark, they looked like small fireworks on her hand. And in the light of those sparks, she gazed at Jack. Thunder she whispered in his head.

You lead, I follow Jack held onto her hand, and together they rose off the ground, this time their bodies with their minds. Back to back, they floated in the air, the blue lightnings on Lucy's skin illuminating the air around them. Concentrating on their powers, Lucy felt Jack's heartbeat rise just as his temperature did, she prepared to shoot another lightning, but just as she meant to fire it, her heart skipped a beat.

Thomas!

Jack stopped, listening to her thought. What's wrong?

I can hear his heartbeat. Can't you? He's right above us. If we blow this up, we could kill him, and others.

You're right Jack listened to their surroundings as well. Wait His mind spun wild. Everywhere around them voices rang through the walls, heartbeats, laughter, footsteps. Everywhere, except for one spot. The lower left corner of the room. Nothing came from there.

I can feel it too Lucy responded as Jack squeezed her hand. Can you focus on that?

Once more Jack's temperature rose, and the lines on Lucy's skin intensified. At last, both their minds in synch, Lucy shot a lightning in direction of the corner, a deafening bang ripped the air apart, following the lightning, and with it, Jack pushed all the heat, the pressure that had followed Lucy's lightning, into the direction of the empty corner.

Cracking, tumbling, bang after boom after crash, the wall collapsed, revealing a hole big enough for both children to escape. Their finger intertwined, Jack led Lucy through that hole into the open space beyond. Another hall, one without windows, or doors, but the two did not bother with that. Instead, they prepared to repeat their power clash.

"STOP! THE EXPERIMENT IS OVER!" Dr Paige's voice echoed over speakers. Her tone cold and determined, but they detected her fear at once.

Clutching the table before her, Dr Paige had witnessed the thunder and lightning the children had caused. The whole room had shook as the wall collapsed, and in the distance security rushed their way. Soldiers with guns, ready to shoot, led by a Sargent that cared about the children as little as he did for the dirt beneath his feet.

Getting a hold of herself, Dr Paige opened the platform for Jack and Lucy to return to them. As soon as she had entered the room, turned on the lights and took a deep breath to steady her voice, Jack and Lucy floated through the open hole in the ceiling onto the floor beneath.

"What have you done?" Dr Paige belted, her fingers fumbling to get her blazer back into place.

"We found a way out, like you told us" Lucy stated, her hand still holding onto Jack's as she felt the nearing threat.

Giving it a squeeze to let her know he had noticed as well, Jack stepped forward, his tall body before Lucy, the eyes on Dr Paige. "She's mine"

"Take them" Dr Paige yelled when the Sargent stepped into the room, the guns pointed at the children.

Jack let his temperature rise quick, but the Sargent shot faster, tranquillising both children. Their faces turned to one another, Lucy could only watch as two soldiers dragged Jack away. Another hoisted her over his shoulder, and following Dr Paiges orders, brought her into the medical room.

Darian Lucy spotted him standing next to Dr Paige as nurses strapped her to a 5able, and connected electrodes to her body.

"I want you to be save, and you won't be, if all you cause is destruction" With those words Dr Paige gave another doctor an order, placed her hand on Darian's shoulder and led him behind a curtain.

Lucy heard every word they spoke, but she could not believe them. "She will soon need your guidance, Luke. You are her brother, keep her save, and far away from Jack until we have found a solution. Do you understand?"

"Yes, ma'am" Darian nodded at Dr Paige, and from then on, Darian faded forever.

Luke, Darian, Luke... Jack A sudden electric shock tore Lucy out of her thoughts, it burnt through her skull, her bones, muscles, her whole body. Then another, and a third. After that, she remembered nothing other than darkness. Luke! What had they done to Darian, why did Dr Paige call him Luke? Would she become someone else as well?
