“I can’t believe she hit you.” Lucy finally said after I had finished explaining the events of the night before. We were sat on her double bed opposite each other, she had stayed unusually quiet as I told her about the argument with my Mum, Jared being so nice to me, the texts from Adrianna and meeting Jared’s parents. “I mean I’ve seen her angry before…but I never would have expected her to do something like that.”

“I didn’t think she meant to do it.” I protested, “She was just really angry, she wasn’t thinking straight.”

It felt strange to be defending her because I was in no way ready to forgive her, but I could see her point of view. Mum hated anything that could bring us harm – alcohol, drugs…boys. Although that wasn’t a reason to hit me or scare me and Adrianna.

“Why did you take the blame Jade?” Lucy asked me.

“She’s my sister Luce.” I shook my head. “I wanted to protect her.”

“Do you honestly think she would do the same for you?” Lucy demanded, “It was under your bed Jade.”

“What are you saying?” I snapped defensively.

“She hid it under your bed so that if your Mum or Dad ever found it they would blame you.” Lucy exclaimed, “She set you up.”

I shook my head, “She didn’t mean it.”

“Yes she did.” Lucy sighed, “She’s just feeling guilty because she didn’t expect you to look out for her.”

I remained silent, knowing that what Lucy was saying was true. Adrianna had hid her weed under my bed for a reason, the past few months had been tough between us as my irritation grew while her resentment multiplied. I knew Lucy wasn’t trying to be harsh, she was just trying to knock some sense into me.

“I know.” I whispered. “I just didn’t want it to be true.”

Lucy’s blue eyes softened and she smiled sympathetically at me, “It’s not your fault that you’re one hell of a sister.”

I returned her smile, “Cheers Luce, for saying that and for letting me stay with you.”

Lucy rolled her eyes and threw one of her fluffy pink pillows at me, “All right, enough of this soppiness, let’s talk about what happened between you and Jared!”

I groaned and rested my head in the palm of my hand, “I don’t even know what happened with me and Jared.”

“You kissed him, more than once, that’s what bloody happened!” Lucy grinned, reaching out to poke me in the ribs teasingly. “Don’t tell me you’re regretting it.”

            “No…I don’t know…maybe.” I blundered helplessly.

To be honest I wasn’t sure if I was. The kiss itself had been amazing and he had been so nice to me, but now I was beginning to think I had given into him too easily. He had been incredibly sweet to me, he had looked after me last night and he had protected me both time that Darren had come after me, but on the other hand he had also been a twat with kissing Immy on our date and annoying the living daylights out of me. I was starting to second guess myself, remembering how hurt I had been when I saw the picture of him and Immy kissing – had I been weak? Had I fallen prey to Jared Felton’s charms?
