Behind The Story
NOTE FROM THE AUTHOR
I consider these shortest of stories my Little Deaths, orgasms of enjoyment and sensory beauty. They are snapshot exercises of truths painted with words. Some broke me to write, while others made me laugh out loud or smile profusely.
I started writing them more formally in 2014 after I read a passage in Pat Pattison's book Writing Better Lyrics. He suggested writing for ten minutes every morning when you first wake up, using all the senses. He called it object writing.
These types of stories are great to write because they're longer than a Tweet, 280 characters. But shorter than a book, 30,000-80,000 words. While I haven't always been consistent, I've noticed a marked improvement in my writing the more time I dedicate to it. It's a great tool to expand and hone your writing skills, in mere minutes a day.
I originally posted a lot of these on my Tumblr and some on Instagram. But when I went through to edit the stories I hadn't realized how many stories I had never posted online. I'm still writing them almost every day and posting some on Tumblr. So I'll keep adding to this book. But I won't add more sections to the book until the end of the year when the last story for that year is written.
I hope you enjoy them, these torments of words. I know I had fun writing some of them!
May the light keep you and blessings to you and yours,
