Prologue
The tall man strode silently out of the shadows of the deep alleyway onto the large city square. The moon's white light flooded down from the sky and drowned the clearing, washing the shroud of darkness near the man away, but only near him. He walked quietly, his footsteps muffled by the tiny stones scattered on the quare, his pure white cloak billowing out behind him and gently brushing against the paved ground. Under his cloak, the man felt for his short knife. It was still in its proper spot, strapped within the right sleeve of his black long-sleeved shirt. The thought gave the man comfort, at least he would be able to protect himself from them.
His steps slowed as he neared a set of stairs leading up to a tall, narrow building marked on an old wooden sign as Lady of the Rose Church. The ancient stone building towered over the other buildings in the square, making them look stubby and short. The cloaked man reached up with his rough, callused hands and pulled down the white hood that had earlier hung down in front his face over his eyes and he kneeled down. "Good evening, my lady" he said formally.
The woman to whom he had addressed stood at the top of the stairs overlooking the square, wearing a dress that was a similar colour as the man's cloak. She delicately swept her raven black hair over her shoulder and smiled down at the man who knelt down in front of her. "Arise my dedicated follower. I'm glad you could make it here tonight. What news do you bring for me?"
The man stood and brushed the small amount of grit off of his otherwise clean cloak. He stared down at his night black pants, his whispy brown hair hanging down a little bit in front of his eyes, for a moment before sighing and lifting his head up to the woman. "I'm afraid it is not good. They're far more dangerous than we imagined. They have numbers and weapons far greater than our own. I don't think we can win this one Emelia."
With a sad smile on her scarlet lips, the woman stepped down and rested a hand on the man's shoulder. "We have done it before, William, do not doubt it. The Light will always overcome the Dark."
