I Won't Run Away

Ruby and I got back on the Griffon and flew back to Beacon. Once we landed, we saw Weiss and Zwei up ahead.

Weiss turned around and spotted us. "Ruby!" Weiss said in relief while grabbing my sister's hands in hers. "Oh, I found you!" Ruby said.

"Where have you two-"

"Don't worry, we're fine." Ruby assured Weiss. "What's going on?" I asked. Weiss didn't answered as her expression changed from relieved to sad.

"Weiss? What is it?" Ruby asked. She moved aside and I saw Yang and Blake lying on the ground; Blake was hurt and Yang's right arm was missing.

"Yang!" I called out in worry. I was quickly by her side as tears gathered in my eyes with my hands pressed over my mouth and nose.

"I'm sorry..." Blake apologized with teary eyes. "I'm so sorry!"

"Hey... she's going to be okay. The soldiers have a ship ready to take you guys to Vale." Sun explained.

"But Jaune and Pyrrha are still missing!" Nora said before groaning in pain. "What?!" Ruby said.

"Look, guys. That giant Grimm keeps circling the school. Even the White Fang are pulling out! We all have to go! Now!" Sun said.

"We're not leaving!" Ren insisted. He attempted to stand up, but fell back down on his knee due to the pain.

It was silent until Ruby spoke. "I'll find them," She said. "I'll find them and I'll bring them back." 

"No. We will find them," Weiss said, then turned to Ren and Nora. "Watch after Blake and Yang. We'll be back."

"I'm coming, too." I said while standing to my feet. "Lily, no." Weiss denied. "I can help. I can command the Grimm and clear a path for you guys so you can find Jaune and Pyrrha." I explained.

She and Ruby looked at each other, and my sister nodded to her. "Okay, then." Weiss agreed. I turned to Sun. "We'll be back." I informed, then left with Weiss and Ruby.

"You better be!" Sun called after us. We ran until Weiss' scroll rang. "It's Jaune!" She informed, then answered the call. "Where are you?"

"Weiss! Please, you have to stop her!" Jaune said.

"What?"

"Pyrrha! She's going after that woman, at the top of the tower! She doesn't stand a chance!"

Weiss, Ruby, and I looked at each other, then at the tower. "Jaune, what are you talking about? Where are you?" Weiss asked.

"Don't worry about me!" He screamed. "Please... You have to save Pyrrha."

"We will. Are you okay?" Weiss asked, but there was no response from him. "Jaune? Jaune!" Weiss said.

I spotted the Grimm Dragon fly around the tower before resting itself on the side. Not moments later, we were surrounded by Grimm.

"Think you can handle this?" Ruby said to me. "Yeah. Leave it to me." I replied confidently. I focused the Grimm's attention on me while Ruby and Weiss ran ahead.

I wanted to do more to help and get to the tower. But... can I tame a Grimm that big? I won't know unless I try, right?

I summoned a Griffon and got on its back. I breathed shakily before having the Griffon fly to the top of the tower.

Once we were at the top, I spotted Pyrrha on the ground with an arrow in her ankle. "Pyrrha!" I called. I hopped off the Griffon and ran over to her before falling to my knees, hugging her.

"Lily, you can't be here! You have to go!" She said. "I won't leave you! All of us are getting out of here!" I told her.

"Why waste your breath on someone who's already dead, Lily?" I turned my head to see Cinder approaching us.

"You can still join me, you know? And you can still have everything you ever wanted. All you have to do is take my hand." She offered with an extended hand.

"How can you possibly ask that after what you've done?! You lied to me, and you're hurting my friends!" I yelled at her. "I won't let you kill Pyrrha!"

"You would risk your life for a dead person? You truly are naïve," Cinder said. My eyes widened in terror when she formed a bow and arrow in her hands. "A shame. I was really hoping you would consider my offer."

I hugged Pyrrha protectively while shutting my eyes, waiting for Cinder to shoot me. But instead, I heard Cinder cry out and snarling.

I opened my eyes and gasped when I saw Shadow in front of us; He had attacked Cinder in order to protect me and Pyrrha. 

"Shadow!" He turned around to face me and I hugged his neck. "You saved us!" I cheered. 

However, our reunion was short-lived when I heard a piercing sound. I looked down, seeing an arrow was driven through his heart. "Shadow... No!"

He collapsed to the ground with his head in my lap, whimpering. "No... Please, no! Shadow!" I begged.

This can't be happening.

Please tell me this isn't happening.

Tears trickled down my cheeks as I held him, and Shadow slowly lifted his head while slightly opening his mouth. "Li... ly..."

A black smoke began to leave his body, causing more tears to leave my eyes. "No!" I wanted to hold him so he wouldn't disappear, but that was inevitable. 

Black smoke continued to leave his body until there was nothing left of him except his collar. "Shadow..." I whispered as I began to cry.

I threw my head back towards the sky and screamed.

"SHADOW!!!"
